Statistical Analysis of Crime in France – Anna Maniya

Abstract:

This thesis explores the issue of violent crime within the context of France, examining its underlying issues, patterns, consequences and impacts. Violent crime is a brutal act of assault, robbery, murder and rape, that are reported to the police or the "gendarmerie." Big cities like Paris and Marseille have been hotspot destinations for most crimes committed. The incidents have increased significantly in France, with links to factors such as immigration, socio economic issues, and political instabilities. This scientific research is an analysis on how open borders and free movement within the Schengen countries, especially in France, contribute to cross-border crimes, such as narco-terrorism and human trafficking. Drug trafficking, particularly heroin and cocaine, is prevalent, where northern cities serve as key transit hubs. Cybercrime is another growing issue, where industries and mainly high-ranking individuals are being targeted with ransomware and financial fraud. The study also explores social issues like unemployment and a lack of trust in the government, which have fueled property crimes, public distrust and protests. The French government has taken measures to minimize youth delinquency, domestic abuse, drug crimes and murders with crime prevention strategies that aim to address these challenges. Compared to Germany however, even if crime rates appear to be comparatively similar in both countries, the government’s approach and measures are drastically different, affecting the results significantly. This scientific research aims to highlight important factors of crimes committed in France, while also analyzing the patterns and, most importantly, to enhance crime prevention methods. …víceméně
