Foreign exchanges intervention as an instrument of the Czech National Bank monetary policy

Abstract:

Cílem práce je vymezení nástrojů měnové politiky České národní banky s důrazem na devizové intervence a jejich využívání v historii ČNB, dále potom analýza důvodů vedoucích k intervenci ČNB na devizovém trhu z listopadu 2013 a jejích dopadů z pohledu vybraných makroekonomických ukazatelů, srovnání průběhu české intervence se švýcarskými a dánskými a nastínění možností budoucího opuštění režimu kurzového závazku Českou národní bankou. Téma je zvoleno vzhledem k jeho neustálé aktuálnosti a možnosti porovnat vývoj české ekonomiky s více než ročním odstupem od intervence.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to define instruments of the Czech National Bank monetary policy with emphasis on foreign-exchange interventions. It covers use of foreign-exchange intervention in the history of CNB, analyses the reasons leading to the intervention in November, 2013, and its impacts on chosen macroeconomic indices. Thesis summarizes Czech approach to foreign-exchange intervention as compared with the Swiss and Danish ones, and suggests possible future ways to abandon the exchange rate commitment held by the Czech National Bank. This topic was chosen due to its relevance to current monetary policy of the Czech National Bank and possibility to analyse impacts of the last intervention on the progression of Czech economy more than a year apart.
