The motivation of regional news journalists to move to the position of spokespersons

Abstract:

Výzkumná bakalářská práce odhaluje, jaké jsou motivační faktory jihomoravských novinářů působících ve zpravodajství ke změně profese a zahájení kariéry tiskových mluvčích. Doposud nezpracované téma získává na zajímavosti zejména díky předešlým výzkumům, z nichž také vychází, reprezentujícím vztah mezi zpravodajskými novináři a tiskovými mluvčími jako převážně negativní. Fenomén novinářské praxe jako vstupní brány pro výkon pozice tiskových mluvčích je přitom na vzestupu a masmediální teoretici ho charakterizují jako zintenzivňující se. Co tedy vede zpravodajce ke změně názoru o PR sektoru, a potažmo zaměstnání v něm, zjišťuje práce za pomoci sedmi narativních rozhovorů se současnými tiskovými mluvčími, svého času praktikujícími žurnalisty v různých jihomoravských zpravodajských médiích. Výzkum, provedený metodologicky v lůně zakotvené teorie, objasňuje hned několik zjištěných motivů a stimulů ke změně praxe. Doplněn je teoretickými koncepty, vysvětlujícími jaké jsou a jak fungují vazby mezi novináři a tiskovými mluvčími a také jaká jsou specifika těchto profesí vykonávaných na lokální úrovni.

Abstract:

This bachelor research-oriented thesis reveals the motivating factors of South Moravian news journalists to change the profession and start a spokesperson career. The previously untreated topic is gainning its interest and a starting point especially because of the previous researchs representing the relationship between those journalists and public relations practitioners as predominantly negative. However, the phenomenon of a journalistic practise as a gateway for the spokesperson position is on the rise and the mass media theorists characterize it as escalating. So far, the thesis finds what does the reporters lead to change their mind about public relations sector and thus the employment in it, carrying out seven narrative interviews with former South Moravian news media workers and also current spokespersons. The research was methodologically conducted in the womb of a grounded theory and explains several observed jounalists motives and incentives to change their practise. It is completed by theoretical concepts explaining the work ties between journalists and public relations practitioners as well as what the specifics of those professions exercised at the local level are.
