Supporting Acpects of the Bereaved who are Coping with the Death of a Loved One

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá hledáním podpůrných aspektů u pozůstalých, kterým zemřel někdo blízký, jemuž pak zařizovali pohřeb. Cílem práce je najít v prožívání zármutku pozůstalých okolnosti, které pozůstalí zpětně nahlíží jako podporující a povzbudivé na cestě k přijetí smrti blízkého. Autorku zajímalo, zda čas umírání, přípravy pohřbu a účast na něm má v sobě potenciální zdroje, které pomáhají ke snadnějšímu vyrovnání se se ztrátou. Dále nahlíží podpůrné aspekty v zármutku u pozůstalého v jeho bio-psycho-socio-spirituálních dimenzích. Součástí cíle práce je také objevit propojení, jak ztráta blízkého může vést pozůstalé k posttraumatickému růstu. Pozůstalí v tomto výzkumu nahlíželi na své zkušenosti s ročním až pětiletým odstupem. V empirické části autorka dochází ke zjištění, že to co podporuje pozůstalé na cestě vyrovnání se se ztrátou, se objevuje již před smrtí samotnou jako "prožívání života s přijetím jeho pomíjivosti". To vnáší do blízkých vztahů otevřenost v níž je vzájemně "dovoleno být smrtelný". Toto zjištění bylo u některých pozůstalých posíleno vírou, či životní filozofií, v níž je smrt nahlížena jako brána do nového bytí. Další podpůrné aspekty byly nacházeny ve všech následujících situacích – umírání, v čas úmrtí, při zařizování a účasti na pohřbu a v čase po pohřbu. Potenciál podpory v těchto situacích byl nejčastěji dán blízkostí jiných vztahů, souladem s ostatními pozůstalými a vlastními předpoklady pro zvládnutí traumatické události. Nahlédnutí na místa z nichž může pozůstalý čerpat podporu pro vyrovnání se se ztrátou tak může povzbudit jak samotné pozůstalé, tak jejich doprovázející, ať laické, či profesionální.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with seeking supporting aspects of bereaved people who lost their loved ones and who then arranged the funeral. The aim of the theses is to find, in those experiencing grief, circumstances that survivors retrospectively see as supportive and encouraging towards acceptance of loved one’s death. The author was interested whether the time of death, the funeral preparations and participation in it has potential resources that help to facilitate coping with loss. Further the author focuses on supporting aspects of grief for the bereaved in their bio-psycho-socio-spiritual dimensions. Partial aim of the thesIs is to discover connections as to how loss of a loved one can lead bereaved people to posttraumatic growth. Bereaved in this research were looking back on their experience in one to five-year intervals. In the empirical part, the author comes to the conclusion that what supports bereaved on their way of coping with loss, occurs before death itself as a "life experience with the acceptance of its impermanence." This brings openness into close relationships in which everyone "is allowed to be mortal." This finding was strengthened by some bereaved persons’ faith or life philosophy, in which death is seen as a gate into a new being. Other supporting aspects were found in all these situations - dying, time of death, in arranging and attending a funeral and at the time after the funeral. Supporting potential in these situations was determined by the proximity of other relationships, harmony with the other bereaved persons and their own preconditions for managing a traumatic event. Insights on the sources from which the bereaved draw support for coping with loss can encourage bereaved and also their counselors, whether professional or non-professional.
