Analysis of the New Silk Road and its impact on selected countries

Abstract:

Projekt Nová Hedvábná stezka byla zahájena v roce 2013 při projevu čínského prezidenta Xi Jinping v Kazachstánu na Nazarbayev univerzitě. Iniciativa Pás a Stezky, která slouží k budování Nové hedvábné stezky, obsahuje pozemní trasu, která propojuje Čínu se zeměmi Střední Asie, Středního Východu, Ruska a končí v Evropě. Dále námořní trasa propojuje Čínu s Jihovýchodní Asii a Indii a přes Indický oceán trasa pokračuje na východní Afriku, kde přes Rudé moře končí opět v Evropě. Ke konci roku 2019 se již 136 státu podílí na iniciativě Pásu a Stezky a v některých státech je vliv Číny nepřehlédnutelný. Podle projevu čínského prezidenta má tato spolupráce přinášet win-win výsledek. V práci budu analyzovat dopad Nové Hedvábné stezky na vybrané státy a zohledním jak krátkodobou, tak i dlouhodobou situaci. Součásti práce je rovněž analýza situace Číny. Budu zkoumat jaká byla situace její domácí ekonomiky před a po této spolupráci. Na základě analýzy dat a informací vychází, že Nová hedvábná stezka skutečně dokáže přinášet win-win výsledek. Musí však nabývat takovou formu spolupráce, na které se může podílet i místní ekonomika. V opačném případě je dopad omezený.

Abstract:

The New Silk Road project was launched in 2013 at Nazarbayec university in Kazakhstan during the speech of Chinese president Xi Jinping. The Belt and Road Initiative, which is focused on building the New Silk Road, contains overland and sea roads. A system of overland roads connects China with countries in Central Asia, Middle East, Russia and ends in Europe. On the other hand, the maritime silk road connects China with Southeast Asia and India, crosses the Indian Ocean to East Africa, continues through the Red Sea and again, ends in Europe. By the end of 2019, 136 countries have already been participating in on Belt and Road initiative and in some of these countries, the influence of China is very obvious. According to the speech of Chinese president Xi Jinping, the cooperation on this initiative should result in win-win situation. Because of that, in my work, I will be analyzing the impact of New Silk Road on chosen countries in short and long term. Part of my work is also analyzing the economic situation of China, where I will compare the national economy before and after cooperation. Based on data and information analysis, the result is that New Silk Road is capable of producing a win-win situation. However, the cooperation must take a form, on which the local economy can participate. Otherwise the impact of initiative will be limited.
