Futurism and the Birth of Fascism

Abstract:

Futurismus se zrodil roku 1909, a sice publikováním zakládajícího manifestu ve francouzském listu Le Figaro. F. T. Marinetti, který jej založil, zůstal po celou jeho epochu uznávanou hlavou hnutí, které, coby první moderní avantgarda, pronikalo na všechna umělecké pole. Futuristé představili futuristickou poezii, hudbu, architekturu, sochařství a samozřejmě malířství. Sami futuristé tvrdili, že vycházejí z impresionismu, avšak na rozdíl od impresionistické krajinomalby reflektovali zážitek moderních měst a dělnických bouří průmyslových metropolí. Glorifikace technologického pokroku je vedla k oslavě rychlosti, jež byly moderní stroje, jako automobil, schopné vyvinout. Ve své snaze o záznam pohybu, a to reálného i duševního zážitku z něj, dospěli k formálně-estetickým inovacím, jež nadále určovaly směr modernímu umění. První světová válka radikálně zasáhla do vývoje evropského umění a zásadně proměnila estetické a tématické hodnoty futuristických děl. Nicméně umělecké výdobytky secondo futurismo zasluhují stejnou pozornost, jako ty předválečné, futuristům se podařilo prosadit vedle nastupujícího návratu k pořádku i propojit arte-vita, tedy umění se životem, ať už skrze futuristické hračky, užité umění, interiérový design, módu či kuchyni. Během 30. let se futurismus se svým vůdčím trendem aeropitturou navrátil k válečné tématice a oslavě Mussoliniho politiky, které zapříčinily těsnější sepjetí s režimem. Futurismus se po celou svou epochu identifikoval se sociálně-politickým klimatem Itálie, byl jeho produktem, následkem a částečně i příčinou, futuristé sami se zapojovali do politického dění, svou činností přispěli k italskému zapojení do první světové války i k formování fašismu po ní. Během následujících let Marinetti identifikoval své hnutí s vládnoucím fašistickým režimem, což futurismus po pádu fašismu odsoudilo k zapomění.

Abstract:

Futurism was born in 1909 by publishing the founding manifesto in the French newspaper Le Figaro. F. T. Marinetti, who founded it, has remained a recognized head of movement throughout his epoch, which, as the first modern avant-garde, has infiltrated all art fields. Futurists introduced futuristic poetry, music, architecture, sculpture and, of course, painting. The futurists themselves claimed to be based on Impressionism, but unlike Impressionist landscape painting, they reflected the experience of modern cities and workers' storms of industrial metropolises. The glorification of technological progress has led them to celebrate the speed that modern machines, such as cars, have been able to develop. In their quest to record movement, both real and mental, they have come to formally-aesthetic innovations that continue to guide modern art. World War I radically affected the development of European art and fundamentally transformed the aesthetic and thematic values of futuristic works. Nevertheless, the artistic achievements of secondo futurismo deserve the same attention as the pre-war ones, the futurists succeeded in bringing together arte-vita, ie art with life, through futuristic toys, applied art, interior design, fashion or cuisine. During the 1930s, futurism, with its leading trend in aeropitture, returned to the war theme and celebration of Mussolini's policies, which caused closer ties with the regime. Futurism has identified itself with the socio-political climate of Italy throughout its epoch, was its product, its consequence and partly its cause, the futurists themselves have been involved in political events, their activities have contributed to Italian involvement in the First World War and the formation of fascism after it. Over the years, Marinetti identified his movement with the ruling fascist regime, which condemned futurism to forget after the fall of fascism.
