Mental representation of motivation in working with the elderly people

Abstract:

Práce zkoumá mentální reprezentace motivace v práci se seniory. Práce vychází z teze, že způsob, jakým respondentky o motivaci přemýšlí, vytváří jejich realitu. Autorka použila kvalitativní výzkumnou strategii. Výzkum je založen na polostrukturovaných rozhovorech se sociálními pracovnicemi, zdravotními sestrami a manažerkami v Domovech pro seniory. V teoretické části práce objasňuje pojmy související s tématem diplomové práce, jako je motivace, sebepoznání, prosociální chování, motivace v pomáhajících profesích, péče o seniory, mentální reprezentace a domov pro seniory. Empirická část práce si klade za cíl zodpovědět hlavní výzkumnou otázku, která zní: Jaká je u pomáhajících pracovníků mentální reprezentace motivace k péči o seniory v domovech pro seniory? Na základě získaných poznatků práce vyslovuje závěry k hlavní výzkumné otázce a předkládá návrhy, jak u pomáhajících pracovníků zlepšit reflexi motivace. Práce obsahuje zjištění, že mentální reprezentace motivace v práci se seniory jsou vnímány v několika významech – motivace spojená s představou sebepoznání jako motivačního faktoru ke zdokonalování se nebo pokračování v práci, altruistická motivace, motivace spojená se zvažováním nákladů a přínosů, motivace ovlivněná procesem učení, motivace spojená s mocí a motivace uspokojovat potřeby.

Abstract:

This thesis examines mental representation of motivation in working with elderly. The research is based on the premise that the way of respondents' thinking constructs their reality. Author used qualitative research method. Data were collected by the means of semi-structured interviews with social workers, nurses and manageresses in Care homes. In the theoretical part of this thesis author clarifies the concepts related with topic of thesis: motivation, self-knowledge, prosocial behavior, motivation in helping professions, care for the elderly, mental representation and Care homes. The empirical part of this thesis aims to answer the main research question: What mental representation do people working in the helping professions have of motivation to care for elderly in Care homes? The thesis conclusion is based on findings, provides answers to main research question and propose ways of improving reflection of motivation in helping professions. Thesis includes the notion that mental representations of motivation in working with elderly are perceived in several meanings – motivation linked with the idea of self-knowledge as a motivational factor towards self-improvement or continuation of work, altruistic motivation, motivation linked to consideration of gains and losos, motivation influenced by learning process, motivation linked to power and motivation of needs fulfilment.
