Iran 40 years since the Islamic Revolution. Change of regional position of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Middle East

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá proměnou regionálního postavení Íránské islámské republiky na Blízkém východě od islámské revoluce, která proběhla v roce 1979, do roku 2019. Hlavním cílem této práce je zjistit, jak se proměňovalo regionální postavení Íránu za toto období 40 let. Tato bakalářská práce je rozdělena do dvou částí. První kapitola v teoretické části se zabývá pojmy, se kterými následně v práci pracuji. Zde v první kapitole definuji pojmy moc, regionální mocnost, regionální hegemon, regionální vůdce a rovněž v této části představuji můj metodologický postup na měření mocenského postavení. Druhá (již praktická část) kapitola mé práce se zabývá problematikou, jestli je Írán integrální součástí Blízkého východu, nebo ne. Třetí kapitola se zabývá vývojem mocenských (demografických, ekonomických a vojenských) kapacit Íránu od roku 1979 do roku 2019. V této kapitole rovněž komparuji změřené hodnoty Íránu s jinými mocnostmi regionu. Poslední kapitola praktické části je věnována regionální politice Íránu, zde se zaměřuji na zájmy a cíle. Dále pak popisuji jednotlivé nástroje pro rozšiřování vlivu Íránu a pro posilování jeho mocenského postavení v regionu. V závěrečné části zodpovídám metodologické otázky, které jsem si stanovil v úvodu.

Abstract:

My bachelor thesis deals with the change of a regional position of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Middle East after the Islamic revolution in 1979 to 2019. The main goal of this bachelor thesis is to find out how the regional position of Iran has changed since the Islamic revolution in 1979. This bachelor thesis is divided into two parts. The first part is a theoretical part; the second one is an empirical part In the first chapter of my bachelor thesis I define concepts as a power, regional power, regional hegemony and a regional leader. I also introduce in this part the indicators which I will use for an examination of the position of Islamic Republic of Iran in the region. The second chapter of this thesis deals with the topic whether the Iran is an integral part of the Middle East, or not. Third chapter of this thesis focuses on power (material) capacities and its evolution of the Islamic republic of Iran from 1979 to 2019. In the first subchapter of this third chapter I talk about the demographic indicators. As a main indicator of the demographic capacities I choose the population size. In next subchapter I write about economy of Iran since the 1979 and as an indicator of economy I choose GDP. Third subchapter is about army capacities in which I present the numbers of army personnel and army expenditure since 1979. In the last subchapter I compare these values with other regional powers. Fourth chapter belongs to a regional policy of Iran. This chapter is divided to two subchapters. The first subchapter deals with the goals and interests of Iran regional policy. The second one talks about tools of Iran's regional policy to spread its influence and improve its position in the region. The results of my bachelor thesis are written in the conclusion.
