Abstract:

Předmětem práce je působení Františka Drtikola jako duchovního učitele v době od konce dvacátých let 20. století do roku 1961, zejména jeho interpretace buddhistických nauk a praktik jak je předával svým žákům a posluchačům. Základem je analýza publikovaných písemných záznamů F. Drtikola, jeho žáků, posluchačů a přátel. Pomocí textů chci dokumentovat určitou podobu akulturace buddhismu v českém prostředí. Hlavními momenty, na které se soustředím jsou překlad a další přizpůsobování jednotlivých konceptů místnímu kulturnímu prostředí. To zahrnuje přizpůsobení jak zdejšímu myšlenkovému zázemí, tak i sociálnímu uspořádání. Klíčová je tu role Františka Drtikola jako prostředníka, překladatele a učitele. Vycházím z předpokladu, že buddhismus na Západě tvoří svébytnou tradici a pracuji s některými teoriemi z výzkumu této oblasti (Martin Baumann, Andrew Rawlinson, Jay L. Garfield). Věnuji se také sociálním aspektům akulturace, v tomto případě především individualizaci. Zde ověřuji platnost některých závěrů Milana Fujdy učiněných v podobné oblasti a pro podobné prostředí.

Abstract:

The matter of this thesis are the activities of František Drtikol as a spiritual teacher from the late 20s of the 20th century till 1961, especially his interpretations of Buddhist teachings and practice which he passed on his followers and listeners. Its main base is the analysis of all publicised texts by Drtikol and his followers, listeners and friends. Through these texts I aim to illustrate a certain form of acculturation of Buddhism in Czech lands. The core aspects that I study in this thesis are translation and other interpretation of concepts to a local cultural environment. This includes adaptations to the local intellectual background and also to social structures. I explore the key role of František Drtikol as a mediator, interpreter and teacher. I start from a premise that Buddhism in the West has its own self-sustaining tradition and I work with theories from this field of study (Martin Baumann, Andrew Rawlinson, Jay L. Garfield). I also write about the social aspects of acculturation, in this case mostly individualization. Here I confirm some outcomes of Milan Fujda in a similar issue and a comparable environment.
