Grandparents are parents again

Abstract:

Diplomová práce „Prarodiče znovu rodiči“ je snahou o porozumění jevu, který v naší společnosti je sice poměrně častým, zůstává však na okraji zájmu společnosti. Je jím pěstounská a jiná náhradní rodinná péče vykonávaná prarodiči dítěte. Více než polovina pěstounů v naší zemi je z řad prarodičů. Jejich situace kromě stejného zákona nemá s ostatními pěstouny nic společného. Pro převzetí odpovědnosti za výchovu svého vnoučete se nerozhodovali nezaujatě, neměli možnost zvažovat, zda jejich síly budou stačit. Nikdo je nepřipravoval na situace, se kterými se potkávají. Kromě péče o své vnouče jsou konfrontováni i se situací, v které se nachází jejich vlastní dítě, případně se musejí smiřovat s jeho ztrátou. Rozhodně tedy nejsou lidmi, kteří by se z plnosti svých sil rozhodli pomáhat druhým. Přesto jsou to lidé nesmírně silní, protože dokáží převzít rodičovskou zodpovědnost namísto svých dětí a dát tak svým vnoučatům možnost za dané situace vyrůstat v nejlepších možných podmínkách.

Abstract:

Annotation Diploma thesis „Grandparents are parents again“ is aimed at understanding a phenomenon which is quite common in our society, however it never gained a public interest. This phenomenon we are talking about is foster care and other kinds of alternative family care performed by the child's own grandparents. More than half of foster parents in our country are grandparents. Situations these foster parents are facing have almost nothing in common with other foster parents except for the law. Unlike the other foster parents, grandparents experiencing second parenthood did not in many cases have a choice or time for objective reasoning weather or not they even have enough strength to take over responsibility for raising a child. Nobody prepared them for complicated situations they are facing on a daily basis. In addition to care for their grandchild, they are often due to face complicated situations of their own children or eventually have to settle with their loss. They are definitely not people who would simply decide that they want to help others from the point of their strength. Nevertheless they are people extremely strong because they are able to take over parenting responsibility from their own children and so give their grandchildren a chance to grow up in the best possible conditions.
