Marcel Duchamp Retrospective in Galerie Václava Špály in 1969

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce zpracovává pražskou retrospektivu umělecké činnosti avantgardního velikána Marcela Duchampa (1887–1968), kterou uspořádal v roce 1969 český historik umění a výtvarný kritik Jindřich Chalupecký (1910–1990) v Galerii Václava Špály. Stěžejními body textu jsou práce se zachovanou korespondencí mezi Chalupeckým a Arturem Schwarzem (*1924), která poukazuje na dlouhodobé úsilí vložené do přípravy exhibice, také rozbor představených děl i výstavy jako celku, včetně vyzdvižení jejího významu v dobovém kontextu.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the Prague retrospective presenting the art of avant-garde artist Marcel Duchamp (1887–1968), which was organized in the year 1969 by Czech art historian and art critic Jindřich Chalupecký (1910–1990) in Galerie Václava Špály. The main aspects of the text are the analysis of the preserved correspondence between Chalupecký and Arturo Schwarz (*1924), which showcases the long-term effort put into the planning of the exhibition, as well as the analysis of the presented works of art and the exhibition as a whole and emphasizing the significance of the exhibition in the context of the period.
