Attitudes to the imigration in relation to personality traits in young adults

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá postojem k imigraci ve vztahu k osobnostním charakteristikám. Cílem našeho výzkumu bylo prokázat spojitost mezi postoji k imigraci a osobnostními charakteristikami (konkrétně vybraných dimenzí pětifaktorového modelu osobnosti: otevřenost, přívětivost, extraverze, neuroticismus) u mladých dospělých. Dále bylo naší snahou potvrdit spojitost mezi postoji k imigraci a vybranými sociodemografickými informacemi (pohlaví a nejvyšší dosažené vzdělání) u mladých dospělých. Do našeho výzkumného souboru bylo zahrnuto celkem 514 osob ve věkovém rozmezí 20 až 35 let. Dotazník, který osoby vyplňovaly, obsahoval položky zjišťující sociodemografické informace, postoje k imigraci. Součástí dotazníku byla Bogardusova škála sociální distance zaměřená na postoj k válečným a ekonomickým imigrantům. Osobnostní charakteristiky byly zjišťovány za pomocí dotazníku Big Five Inventory (BFI-44). Výsledky provedeného výzkumu potvrdily spojitost mezi otevřeností a postoji k imigraci, dále byla potvrzena spojitost mezi dosaženým vzděláním a postojem k imigraci. Nebyly prokázány hypotézy, v rámci kterých jsme hledali spojitost mezi postojem k imigraci a přívětivostí, extraverzí nebo neuroticismem. Rovněž nebyla nalezena spojitost pohlaví s postoji k imigraci.

Abstract:

The present thesis focuses on attitude towards immigration in relation to personality traits. The aim of this research was to demonstrate the relation between the attitude towards immigration and personality traits (specifically selected dimensions of five-factor personality model: openness, agreeableness, extraversion and neuroticism) in young adults. Furthermore, the secondary aim of the thesis was to prove the relation between attitude towards immigration and selected socio-demographic information (gender and education) in young adults. Our research group included 514 people aged 20 to 35 years. A questionnaire was used to gather data focused on the socio-demographic information and attitude to immigration. Bogardus' Social Distance Scale, which focused on attitude towards war and economic immigration, was also included. Personality traits were explored via the Big Five Inventory (BFI-44). Results of this research proved the link between openness and attitude towards immigration. The relation between education and attitude towards immigration was also proven. Some of our hypotheses have not been confirmed, this research did not prove the relation between attitudes towards immigration and agreeableness, extraversion or neuroticism. The relation between gender and attitudes towards immigration was not found either.
