Plato in modern psychology

Abstract:

Cílem práce bylo nalezení explicitních odkazů na Platóna v dílech autorů moderní psychologie. Za Platónovu „psychologii“ považuji jeho úvahy o duši, které představuji v první části práce. Ve druhé části práce se věnuji nalezeným odkazům v teoriích psychodynamických směrů, psychologie osobnosti, vývojové psychologie a psychoterapie. Nejvíce relevantních odkazů k Platónovi se týkalo vazeb mezi třísložkovou duší a současnými modely osobnosti, dále pak generativity, vazbě péče o duši a terapie a pojetí lásky. Autoři interpretují více Platónových dialogů, nejčastěji však dialog Symposion.

Abstract:

The goal of the thesis was to find explicit references to Plato in the works of authors of modern psychology. I consider Plato's "psychology" to be his reflections on the soul, which I present in the first part of the thesis. In the second part of the thesis, I focus on the references found in the theories of psychodynamic approach, personality psychology, developmental psychology and psychotherapy. The most relevant references to Plato concerned the links between the three-component soul and contemporary models of personality, then generativity, the link between soul care and therapy, and the concept of love. The authors interpret several of Plato's dialogues, but most often the dialogue Symposium.
