Balance training and autonomy recovery in a patient suffering from cerebellar stroke: case report

Abstract:

Within the thesis work, balance training and recovery of autonomy in a patient suffering from cerebellar stroke will be addressed and discussed. Cerebellar stroke is a cerebro-vascular lesion caused by the rupture or occlusion of a vessel, this determines an interruption of the blood flow in the supplied area, for which the nerve cells being deprived of blood supply, which normally has a trophic function, they go into necrosis. Strokes are generally divided into: ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke. The patient under examination is suffering from cerebellar ataxia caused by stroke. The patient presents muscle disorder and lack of coordination with impaired movements. It aims at the recovery of nervous functions compromised by the cerebral vascular event and the recovery of cognitive functions. Our rehabilitation pursues the following objectives: to restore physical and cognitive efficiency of the patient with stroke, to be able to better manage daily life with their own difficulties, to correct the lifestyle and modify it in order to be correct and balanced, to modify the environment in where the patient lives, put in place preventive measures and psychological support to allow the patient an independent life.

Abstract:

All'interno dell'elaborato di tesi si affronter? e argomenter? l'allenamento dell'equilibrio ed il recupero dell'autonomia in un paziente affetto da ictus cerebellare. L'ictus cerebellare ? una lesione cerebro-vascolare causata dalla rottura o occlusione di un vaso, questo determina un'interruzione del flusso sanguigno nel distretto irrorato, per cui le cellule nervose essendo private dall'irrorazione sanguigna, che normalmente ha una funzione trofica, vanno in necrosi. Generalmente gli ictus si distinguono in: ictus ischemico e ictus emorragico. Il paziente in esame ? affetto da atassia cerebellare causata da ictus. Il paziente presenta disordine e mancata coordinazione muscolare con alterazione dei movimenti. Si mira al recupero delle funzioni nervose compromesse dall'evento cerebro vascolare e il recupero delle funzioni cognitive. La nostra riabilitazione persegue i seguenti obiettivi: ristabilire efficienza fisica e cognitiva del malato con ictus, riuscire a gestire meglio la vita quotidiana con le proprie difficolt?, correggere lo stile di vita e modificarlo in modo da essere corretto ed equilibrato, modificare l'ambiente in cui vive il malato, mettere in atto delle misure preventive e supporti anche psicologici per permettere al paziente una vita autonoma.
