Adaptation of seniors to life in a retirement home

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce je zaměřena na problematiku života seniorů v domově pro seniory. Hlavním cílem práce je zjistit, jak probíhá proces adaptace seniorů na život v domově pro seniory. Práce je rozdělena na dvě části, teoretickou a empirickou část. Teoretická část práce představuje základní pojmy jako stárnutí, stáří a senior. Dále popisuje službu sociální péče domov pro seniory a vysvětluje pojem adaptace. Poslední kapitola teoretické části pak prezentuje aktivizační služby. Teoretická část práce reflektuje empirickou část. Cílem výzkumu je pokusit se blíže prozkoumat proces adaptace seniorů na život v domově pro seniory, odkrýt, jaké faktory na proces adaptace působí, a vysvětlit, jaký je vztah mezi těmito faktory. Kvalitativním výzkumem, založeným na rozhovorech s osmi informanty, bylo zjištěno, že skrze aktivizační služby a personální a materiální zázemí domova pro seniory dochází k adaptaci seniora na život v domově pro seniory. Aktivizační služby a personální a materiální zázemí domova pro seniory jako vnitřní faktory vzhledem k domovu pro seniory působí na seniora, jenž má určité vlastnosti, podle kterých se chová. Vnitřní faktory dále musí brát v úvahu vnější faktor vzhledem k domovu pro seniory, který rovněž působí na seniora a může ovlivňovat jeho chování. Vnějším faktorem jsou okolnosti před vstupem seniora do domova pro seniory.

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on the issues of life of seniors in the retirement home. The main objective is to determine the process of adaptation of seniors to the life in the retirement home. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part defines the fundamental concepts concerning the aging, the age and a senior. It also describes the social services of retirement home and explains the concept of adaptation. The last chapter of this part presents activation services. The theoretical part of the thesis reflects empirical part. The research objective is to investigate the process of adaptation of seniors to the life in the retirement home in more detail. The research tries to identify the main factors that influence the adaptation of seniors and describe the relationships between them. Qualitative research, based on the interview with eight respondents, has proven that activation services and personnel and material base of the retirement home help seniors to adapt to the life in this home. Activation services as well as personnel and material base are basic internal factors affecting the seniors who have specific needs and behavioural characteristics. Internal factors must be considered together with external factors influencing the retirement house. External factors also affect the seniors and their behaviour. These factors include all circumstances of the senior before his arrival to the retirement home.
