Superstitions connected to conception, pregnancy, childbirth, puerperium and breast-feeding that have occurred in villages Lechovice and Božice

Abstract:

Předkládaná bakalářská práce mapuje stav přetrvávání pověr spojených s antikoncepcí, početím dítěte, těhotenstvím, porodem, šestinedělím a kojením v obcích Lechovice a Božice. Práce je rozdělena do dvou částí. První část tvoří přehled dosavadní literatury jak odborné, do které jsou řazeny i dobové lékařské knihy, tak publicistické, zabývající se pověrami, které souvisí se zkoumaným tématem. V práci je rozebrána problematika samotného pojmu pověra, jsou v ní též uvedeny definice tohoto pojmu od jednotlivých badatelů. Druhou část tvoří terénní výzkum realizovaný v již zmiňovaných obcích Lechovice a Božice. Samotný terénní výzkum byl prováděn řízeným rozhovorem se třemi generacemi respondentek na zvolené téma. Přihlédnuto bylo také ke zdrojům, ze kterých respondentky čerpaly. Závěr práce hodnotí získaný materiál z terénního výzkumu a odpovídá na otázku, jak samy respondentky vnímají pojem pověra.

Abstract:

This Bachelor’s Thesis deals with persistent superstitions connected to contraception, conception, pregnancy, childbirth, puerperium and breast-feeding that have occurred in villages Lechovice and Božice. The thesis is divided in two parts. In the first part, there is an overview of both scholarly literature published up to now, including contemporary medical books, and popular literature dealing with superstitions related to the topic of this thesis. The thesis examines the concept of superstition, and it also includes other scholars’ definitions of superstition. The second part of the thesis includes the field research that took place in the above-mentioned villages, Lechovice and Božice. The field research was carried out through a guided interview with three generations of respondents. The sources the respondents drew on are also taken into account in this paper. The findings of the field research are assessed at the end of the paper; the end of the paper also tries to answer the question how the respondents understand the concept of superstition.
