The influence of road salt during winter maintenance on soil chemistry in the street tree lines in Ústí nad Labem and possible impacts on health and vitality of trees from the Tilia genus.

Abstract:

PPráce se zabývá vlivem chemického ošetření silnic na chemismus půdy v uličních stromořadích a na vitalitu nejčastěji používaného taxonu Tilia sp. V teoretické části je shrnuta problematiky půdního prostředí, nejdůležitější vlastnosti půdy a dále problematika posypových materiálů používaných k ošetření silnic. V experimentální části jsou popsány jednotlivé typy hodnocených uličních výsadeb a zhodnocení výsledků dvou měření (jarní, podzimní) vybraných půdních vlastností (pH, elektrická vodivost, obsah humusu, obsah karbonátů). Cílem práce bylo objasnit, zda zimní solení silnic způsobuje negativní efekty a zda tyto efekty mají souvislost s vitalitou dřevin, případně zda je rozdíl v jednotlivých sledovaných parametrech podle typu výsadeb. Byla prokázána statistky významná souvislost mezi mírou zasolení a vitalitou dřevin a vliv pH na vitalitu dřevin a rozdíl v dlouhodobé vitalitě u různých typů výsadeb. Dále byla zjištěn rozdíl mezi jednotlivými lokalitami v průměrných hodnotách el. vodivosti, pH a obsahu humusu.

Abstract:

TThis paper deals with the effect of chemical treatment of roads on the soil chemistry of street trees and on the vitality of the most commonly used taxon, Tilia sp. The theoretical part summarises the soil environment, the main soil properties and the issues of spreading materials used for road treatment. The experimental part describes the different types of street planting studied and evaluates the results of two measurements (spring, autumn) of selected soil properties (pH, electrical conductivity, humus content, carbonate content). The aim of the study was to clarify whether winter gritting of roads has negative effects and whether these effects are related to the vigour of woody plants, or whether there is a difference in the different parameters observed according to the type of planting. A statistically significant relationship was found between salinity and tree vigour, as well as the effect of pH on tree vigour and the difference in long-term vigour between different planting types. Furthermore, a difference was found between the sites in the mean values of electrical conductivity, pH and humus content.
