The Popular Tibetan Siddha Dugpa Kunleg, or else, On How To Be a Buddha Can Be „Crazy“

Abstract:

Resumé Student se v práci zaměřil na slavného tibetského světce Dugpa Kunleho, který žil mezi lety 1455-1529. Tuto postavu, která je označovaná také jako „svatý blázen“ či „božský blázen“ (divine madman, saintly madman) a je připomínána pro její výstřední chování, popíše s přihlédnutím k problematice ne-mnišských světců tibetského buddhismu. V popularitě tohoto sociálního a náboženského glosátora, považovaného za realizovaného adepta tantrických nauk, se prolínají roviny tantrického a klerikálního buddhismu s tradicemi lidového charakteru. První kapitoly jsou věnovány literárním pramenům věnujících se této postavě, které jsou dostupné v překladech. Poté, co jsou stručně nastíněné některé bhútánské lidové tradice se kterými je Künleg spojován a jeho role kulturního hrdiny Bhútánu, jsou popsané okolnosti jeho odchodu do bezdomoví a je popsán základní souhrn jeho života. Student se dále věnuje jeho místu v rámci tibetského buddhismu a se zvláštním zřetelem na tradici indických siddhů také jeho duchovní linii, resp. škole tibetského buddhismu, ke které se Dugpa Künleg hlásil. Cílem této práce je poodhalit logiku, podle které je považován za světce přestože a právě protože, že překračuje normy společnosti… Jeho jednání je uvedené do souvislosti s neortodoxními buddhistickými praxemi založených na tantrickém výkladu nauk mádhjamiky.

Abstract:

Summary The student focused on the famous Tibetan saint Dugpa Kunleg who lived in the years between 1455-1529. This figure, which is known as a "divine madman" or "saintly madman” and is remembered for his outrageous behavior, is described with regard to the issue of non-monastic saints of Tibetan Buddhism. In the popularity of this social commentator regarded as a realized adept of tantric teachings are the levels of clerical and tantric Buddhism interwoven with traditions of folk nature. The first chapters are dedicated to literary sources dealing with this character available in translations. Next a brief outline of some of the Bhutanese folk traditions that are associated with Künleg is given as well as an account of his role as a Bhutanese cultural hero. After this the circumstances of his departure into homelessness are described and a basic summary of his life is given. Attention is paid on his position among traditions of Tibetan Buddhism, with special reference to the tradition of Indian siddhas and on the spiritual lineage, respectively school of Tibetan Buddhism, to which Dugpa Künleg belonged. The aim of this work is to shed some more light on the logic by which he is regarded as a saint despite his eccentric and transgressive behavior.At last is his conduct put into context with unorthodox tantric Buddhist practices based on the interpretation of the mádhyamika doctrines.
