Vliv produkce tabáku na socioekonomické ukazatele v Zimbabwe

Abstract:

Produkce tabáku je základní hospodářskou činností, která významně přispívá k ekonomice Zimbabwe. Míra dopadu produkce tabáku na sociálně-ekonomickou sféru Zimbabwe však není zcela prozkoumána. Proto je tato studie založená na analýze sekundárních dat a využívá publikace z více elektronických databází k posouzení socioekonomických dopadů výroby tabáku v Zimbabwe. Studie odhalila kolísavý, ale v poslední době trvale rostoucí trend v produkci tabáku, přičemž produkce v roce 2017 byla nejvyšší (260 171 tun) v historii výroby tabáku v Zimbabwe. Studie rovněž odhalila významný přínos produkce tabáku prostřednictvím vývozu pro ekonomiku Zimbabwe a také pro živobytí původních zemědělců, kteří jsou na této produkci závislí a je jejich hlavním zdrojem příjmů. I přes významný přínos tabáku pro hospodářství a živobytí obyvatelstva má produkce tabáku v Zimbabwe nepříznivé dopady na zdraví a životní prostředí, jak je znázorněno prostřednictvím kvantitativní a kvalitativní analýzy získaných statistických údajů. Studie proto doporučuje přijít s novou politikou k zajištění udržitelné produkce tabáku, jelikož má tato surovina potenciál zlepšit ekonomiku Zimbabwe.

Abstract:

Tobacco production is an essential economic activity that makes significant contributions to the economy of Zimbabwe. However, the extent to which tobacco production impacts on the socio-economic realities of Zimbabwe is mostly unexplored. This study, therefore, employs a desk study approach with literature from multiple electronic databases to assess the socio-economic impacts of tobacco production in Zimbabwe. The study revealed a fluctuating but recent consistently increasing trend in tobacco production, with the 2017 production being the highest (260,171 tonnes) in the history of tobacco production in Zimbabwe. The study also revealed a significant contribution of tobacco production through exports to the economy of Zimbabwe as well as the livelihoods of indigenous farmers who depend on it as their main source of income. Also, despite the significant contribution of tobacco to the economy and livelihoods of the populace, tobacco production in Zimbabwe has adverse health and environmental impacts as depicted through the quantitative and qualitative analysis of statistical data acquired. The study, therefore, recommends the formulation of policies to ensure the sustainable production of tobacco as it has the potential to turn the economic fortunes of Zimbabwe.
