Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce zkoumá souvislost mezi hudebním vzděláním a znalostí anglického jazyka. Cílem této práce bylo zjistit, do jaké míry mladí studenti s hudebním vzděláním prokazují zvýšené jazykové schopnosti v angličtině. Práce zkoumá také postoje studentů k anglickému jazyku a hudbě obecně, a zaměřuje se i na jejich volnočasové aktivity související s těmito předměty. Potřebná data byla získaná pomocí dotazníku, který byl zaměřen na děti ve věku od deseti do dvanácti let z jedné základní školy a jedno gymnázia v Brně. Průzkumu se zúčastnilo 153 respondentů napříč oběma školami. Respondenti odpovídali na otázky týkající se jejich postoje k anglickému jazyku a hudbě, jejich oblíbených aspektů výuky angličtiny, hodnocení jejich výkonu v angličtině a volnočasových jazykových a hudebních aktivit, především pak hudebního vzdělávání a základních uměleckých škol. Výsledky výzkumného šetření naznačují, že hudební vzdělání má vliv na úroveň anglického jazyka u mladých dětí. Sesbíraná data dále podporují využívání hudby a písní ve výuce angličtiny a jako prostředku k vytváření pozitivního vztahu k jazyku.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis explores the connection between musical training and English language proficiency. It attempts to answer the question of to what extent young learners with musical training demonstrate enhanced language abilities in English. It also explores learners’ general attitudes towards the English language and music, and their free time activities related to those subjects. To reveal the relationship, a survey was conducted in the form of a paper questionnaire which was distributed among children aged ten to twelve years old, attending one elementary and one grammar school in Brno. One hundred and fifty-three respondents participated in the survey across the two schools. The respondents were asked to state their attitudes towards the English language and music, followed by a set of questions concerning their favourite aspects of English lessons, assessment of their performance in English, and both English and music-related free time activities, including musical education. The analysis of collected data indicates training impacts English proficiency in young learners. Other practical implications support the use of music and song in the English classroom and creating a positive attitude towards the language through music.
