The use of didactic games in teaching English to teenagers

Abstract:

Diplomová práce pojednává o využívání didaktických her v hodinách anglického jazyka teenagerů. Práce je rozdělena na dvě hlavní části, část teoretickou a část empirickou. Teoretická část se zabývá pojmem hra, její definicí, principy, znaky, klasifikací a výhodami a nevýhodami, které nabízí. Dále se soustřeďuje na hru jako na prostředek motivace ve výuce a zabývá se jejím zařazením do systému výukových metod. V neposlední řadě popisuje strukturu didaktické hry, zkoumá její využití ve výuce teenagerů a teenagery jako takové. Empirická část je věnována kvantitativnímu výzkumnému šetření, které zjišťuje, jak na didaktickou hru nahlížejí vyučující anglického jazyka na druhém stupni základních škol. Dále zjišťuje, jak často a v jaké fázi didaktické hry do výuky zařazují, jakou funkci hry plní, odkud učitelé čerpají inspiraci a jaké hry ve své výuce nejčastěji používají.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the issue of using didactic games in teaching English to teenagers. The thesis consists of two main parts, theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part deals with the concept of a game, with its definition, principles, features, classification and advantages and disadvantages of using it in the educational process. It also focuses on the game as a motivating learning tool and on its incorporation into the system of teaching methods. Last but not least, it describes the structure of a didactic game, examines its utilization in teaching teenagers and clarifies, who teenagers actually are. The empirical part is devoted to quantitative research, which determines the attitude of lower secondary school teachers on using didactic games in the lessons of the English language. It also discovers how often and in what phase teachers use didactic games in their lessons, what the role of games is, where they get the inspiration for them and what type of didactic games they use the most often.
