Admiral Fisher and the reforms of the Royal Navy in 1902-1914

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá reformami britského královského námořnictva (Royal Navy, RN), které proběhly pod vedením prvního lorda admirality admirála Johna Arbuthnota Fishera, GCB, OM, GCVO. Soustředí se na období mezi lety 1902–1914 a analyzuje, jakými změnami Royal Navy procházela, jak byla ovlivněna její bojeschopnost a jakým způsobem byly reformy implementovány, přijímány a z čeho vycházely. Autor tyto změny dává do kontextu s dějinnými událostmi konce 19. a začátku 20. století před První světovou válkou a komparuje je s důrazem na císařské Německo, které bylo před válkou největším rivalem Velké Británie.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the reforms of the British Royal Navy (RN), which took place under the leadership of the First Lord of the Admiralty, Admiral John Arbuthnot Fisher, GCB, OM, GCVO. It focuses on the period between 1902 and 1914 and analyzes the changes the Royal Navy has undergone, how its combat capability has been affected, and how the reforms have been implemented, adopted and based on. The author puts the changes in context with the historical events of the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century before the First World War and compares them with the emphasis on Imperial Germany, which was the biggest rival of Great Britain before the war.
