Gender and a classroom climate

Abstract:

Tato magisterská diplomová práce je věnována tématu třídního klimatu v koedukovaných a nekodeukovaných třídách na středních školách. Srovnáním, jak třídní klima vnímají žáci v dívčích a chlapeckých třídách a ve třídách smíšených a oddělených. Práce je rozdělena na dvě hlavní části, a to teoretickou a empirickou. Teoretická část pojednává o rozdílnosti mezi genderem a pohlavím, zejména pak projevy rozdílných přístupů učitelů k žákům na základě pohlaví. Pozornost je soustředěna také na historický vývoj (ne)koedukace a argumenty zastánců jednotlivých způsobu vzdělávání. Závěr teoretické práce je soustředěn na školní třídu a třídní klima. Empirická část prezentuje samotné výzkumné šetření, jeho metodologii a dosažené výsledky. Výzkumná část práce byla vedena dvěma cíli a to zjistit, zda existují rozdíly ve vnímání třídního klimatu v dívčích a chlapeckých třídách a také ve třídách koedukovaných a nekoedukovaných. Pro provedení výzkumného šetření byla použita kvantitativní metodologie s metodou standardizovaného dotazníku.

Abstract:

This master’s thesis deals with the issue of classroom climate in coeducational and non- coeducational classes in secondary schools. It puts emphasis on the comparison of classroom climate in girlish and boyish classes and in mixed and single-sex classes. This thesis is divided in two main sections, theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part discusses the difference between the gender and the sex, especially the manifestation of different approaches by teachers to pupils according to their sex. Attention is focused also to a historical development of non-/coeducation and to the arguments of supporters of the individual ways of learning. Final part of the theoretical work is focused on the school classes and classroom climate in general. The empirical part presents the research itself, its methodology and achieved results. The research section was conducted by two goals which was to find differences in perception of a classroom climate in girlish and boyish classes and also the difference between coeducational and non-coeducational teaching. Quantitative methodology with the technique of standardised questionnaire was used for the needs of this research.
