Seder meal in various Jewish traditions

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na Seder, což je slavnostní večeře, prostřednictvím které si Židé připomínají vysvobození Izraelitů z Egypta. Jedná se o přesně daný průběh a sled kroků, během kterých Židé zpívají různé písně, hrají hry, pojídají symbolické pokrmy a čtou z Pesachové Hagady. Cílem této práce je zjistit, zdali se sederové večeře od sebe něčím liší v různých zemích a tradicích nebo zdali je všichni Židé oslavují stejně, podle stanovených norem. Pro vyřešení zvolené problematiky jsem čerpala informace z literárních zdrojů, webových stránek, ale především prostřednictvím e-mailů, které jsem zaslala více než čtrnácti stům rabínů po celém světě a dotazovala se jich na průběh jejich večera. Bohužel kvůli neochotě respondentů spolupracovat jsem obdržela jen necelých šest procent odpovědí ze všech dotazovaných rabínů. Nicméně i tak malá reakce mi pomohla dojít ke schůdnému výsledku. Na základě zjištěných údajů je patrné, že až na výjimky a pár odlišností všichni Židé oslavují Seder stejně. A že spíš než na zemi, ve které žijí, záleží na jejich původu nebo proudu, který zastávají, a na rodině, ve které se narodili.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the Seder, a ceremonial dinner by which the Jews commemorate the deliverance of the Israelites from Egypt. The celebration is a precise process and a fixed sequence of steps during which they sing various songs, play games, eat symbolic meals and read the Passover Haggadah. The aim of this thesis is to find out whether the Seder meals vary in different countries and traditions or whether all the Jews celebrate it in the same manner, according to the established standards. To resolve the given problem, I gathered the information from literary sources, websites, and mainly from an e-mail communication with more than fourteen hundred rabbis from around the world, who I inquired about their Seder evening. Unfortunately, due to the reluctance of respondents to cooperate, only six percent of the approached rabbis replied. Nevertheless, even this amount of answers enabled me to come to a satisfactory outcome. Based on the results of the survey, it is obvious that, apart from a few exceptions, all Jews celebrate the Seder likewise. The research also shows that the manner of the celebration depends more on their origin, a stream that they go with, and a family in which they grow up, rather than on a country where they live.
