A Comparison of Visegrad Four Countries from the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index Point of View

Abstract:

This thesis examines the competitiveness of the Visegrad Four countries, specifically in the field of tourism. The theoretical part is focused on explanation of basic concepts relating to competitiveness in tourism. The paper explains the concept of competitiveness itself as well as its historical development. Since the competitiveness can be found in many different areas, the theoretical part focuses on explaining the concepts of destination's competitiveness and country's competitiveness and explaining the possibility of measuring them. The most important part of the first part of the thesis is the description of TTCI on which the Visegrad countries will be compared. In short, the V4 countries are also introduced. The aim of this thesis is to carry out comparison of the competitiveness of the countries of the Visegrad Group in tourism using TTCI report from 2011, 2013 and 2015; this section is contained in the analytical part of the work. Countries are compared on the basis of the results obtained in the individual subindexes during these three periods. Another goal of this thesis will be covered in the last part, the proposal part, of this work. The goal is to mention some recommendations leading to improvement of negative phenomena in the studied countries and increase the competitiveness of countries both within the V4 as well as in Europe.

Abstract:

Diplomová práca sa zaoberá konkurencieschopnosťou krajín Vyšehradskej štvorky, konkrétne v oblasti cestovného ruchu. Teoretická časť práce je zameraná na vysvetlenie základných pojmov, ktoré sa vzťahujú ku konkurencieschopnosti v turizme. V práci je vysvetlený samotný pojem konkurencieschopnosť ako aj jeho historický vývoj. Keďže konkurencieschopnosť sa nachádza vo viacerých oblastiach, teoretická časť sa zameriava hlavne na vysvetlenie pojmov konkurencieschopnosť krajiny a destinácie a priblíženie možností ich merania. Najdôležitejšou súčasťou prvej časti diplomovej práce je opis TTCI, na základe ktorého budú krajiny Vyšehradskej štvorky porovnávané. V krátkosti je predstavené aj zoskupenie V4. Cieľom diplomovej práce je uskutočniť komparáciu konkurencieschopnosti krajín Vyšehradskej štvorky v cestovnom ruchu s využitím TTCI v rokoch 2011, 2013 a 2015, táto časť je obsiahnutá v analytickej časti práce. Krajiny sú porovnávané na základe výsledkov, ktoré získali v jednotlivých subindexoch počas spomínaných troch období. V návrhovej časti bude obsiahnutý ďalší cieľ práce, ktorým je uvedenie odporúčaní vedúce k zlepšeniu negatívnych javov v sledovaných krajinách a zvýšenie konkurencieschopnosti štátov nielen v rámci V4, ale aj Európy.
