The gendered division of housework

Abstract:

Má bakalářská práce se věnuje tématu genderové dělby práce v domácnosti. Mnoho studií a prací upozornilo a poukázalo na fakt, že tradiční rozdělení genderových rolí v domácnosti stále přetrvává a tradiční genderové hodnoty asociují domácí práce a péči právě s ženskou rolí. Tato práce mapuje situaci genderové dělby domácí práce v České republice a zkoumá, jak muži a ženy vypovídají o dělbě domácí práce. Dále se soustředí na to, jak se genderové rozdělení práce v domácnosti mění díky určitým událostem a tranzicím ve zkoumaných domácnostech. K dosažení výsledků byla použita data z panelového šetření Generations and Gender Survey, obsahující informace jako pohlaví, vzdělání či například rodinný stav respondenta. V empirické části se počítal podíl domácností, ve kterých je vybraná domácí práce vykonávána převážně nebo výhradně ženou a dále byla provedena logistická regrese, díky které se zjistilo, jaký je vztah rozdělení domácích prací k dalším proměnným. Výsledky ukazují, že ženy vypovídají a vnímají, že domácí práce jsou především ženskou záležitostí, častěji než muži. Co se týče zkoumaných faktorů, vzdělání ženy nehraje roli na dělbu domácí práce, kromě vysokoškolského, u kterého mají tyto ženy vyšší šanci, že domácí práce bude vykonávat někdo jiný, než ženy se základním vzděláním. V domácnostech s dětmi se zvýší ženám šance, že budou právě ony v domácnosti vařit a nakupovat oproti ženám bezdětným. Vstup do manželství bude mít dopad především na sezdané ženy, kterým se zvýší šance, že budou domácí činnosti vykonávat ony.

Abstract:

My thesis deals with the topic of gender division of housework. Many studies have pointed out that the traditional distribution of gender roles in the household still exists and traditional gender values associate housework and home care with women's role. This thesis maps the situation of gender division of housework in the Czech Republic and it examines how men and women tell about the division of housework. It also focuses on the question of how certain events and transitions change the gender distribution of housework. I used Generations and Gender Survey data, including information such as gender, education, or for example the respondent's marital status to achieve results. I calculated the proportion of households in which houseworks are mainly or exclusively maked by a woman. I also conducted a logistic regression to see how the division of housework is related to other variables in the empirical part. The results show that women testify and perceive that housework is primarily a women's thing, more often than men. The factors show that the education of women does not play a role in the division housework, with the exception of higher education, where these women have a higher chance (than women with a basic education) that someone else will do housework. In households with children, women will have a higher chance that they will cook and shop at home than women without children. Marriage will have an impact on married women, who will have a higher chance of doing housework.
