Trvale udržitelný rozvoj v procesu navrhování nábytku

Abstract:

Trvale udržitelný rozvoj v designu nábytku je velmi důležitý prvek průmyslu a výroby materiálů. Odpad je jedním z největších environmentálních problémů na světě a designéři by měli hledat nové cesty v procesu navrhování produktů. Designéři mohou svojí prací velmi ovlivnit použití materiálů již při samotném navrhování produktů. Měli by hledat cestu pro udržitelnou produkci. Při navrhovaní by měli mít v povědomí životní cyklus materiálu i produktu a cirkulární ekonomiku. Jedním z největších zdrojů odpadu každý rok je papír. Přestože ho lidé třídí, následuje mnohdy složitý proces recyklace a dalšího zpracování. Tento proces je velmi finančně a energeticky náročný a odpad mnohdy končí na skládkách či ve spalovně. Hlavním cílem této disertační práce je popsat trvale udržitelný rozvoj v procesu navrhování nábytku. Práce se zaměřuje na různé ekologické materiály, využití odpadových materiálů, testování v rámci vědeckého výzkumu a také firmy, které již některé ekologické materiály vyrábějí. Autorka ve své disertační práce dále popisuje vlastní výzkum – výrobu, testování a použití desek na bázi papíru. Myšlenka použití papíru, a především kartonu na nábytek je zde již několik let, nevýhodou však je, že se obvykle jedná o produkty s krátkou životností. Cílem této práce je navrhnout nábytek z materiálu na bázi papíru, který bude mít delší životnost. Během tohoto výzkumu byly použity různé druhy papíru a pojiv. Bylo vyrobeno přes dvě stě testovacích vzorků a jejich fyzikální a mechanické vlastnosti byly otestovány. Následně byly otestovány také látky VOC. Výzkum začal během pracovní stáže na Louisiana State University (LSU), pokračoval na Salzburg University of Applied Sciences (SUAS) a následně pokračoval na Mendelově univerzitě v Brně (MENDELU). Autorka také spolupracovala s firmou Plastia z Nového Veselí, která poskytla materiál pro další testování. Výsledkem práce jsou desky, které byly použity na výrobu odkládacích stolků a dále pak info panelu pro výstavní účely. Výsledek práce byl prezentován v rámci výstavy Designblok 2020 v Praze.

Abstract:

Sustainability in furniture design is an important approach in the furniture design industry and development of materials. Waste is one of the biggest environmental problems and our planet is being polluted more and more every year. Designers can influence the use of different materials before the products are even manufactured. They should look for new ways of using materials and creating products in ecological and sustainable way. While designing new product they should have in mind life cycle of the products and design them in the idea of circular economy. One of the biggest sources of waste every year is paper. Even though the people are recycling and sorting out the waste, there is still a big amount which will not be reused, and many wastes ends up in the landfill or incinerators. The main goal of this thesis is to describe sustainable approach in design process while manufacturing paper composite material which can be used for wood-based products. The thesis is focused on the research of different ecological materials, created by scientists and companies. The author of the thesis is also describing the manufacturing process, testing and the use of paper-based boards which were created during her research. The idea of using cardboard as a material for furniture has been here for many years, but usually it is not long-lasting product. Famous architect Frank Gehry designed the famous Wiggle Chair from cardboard in the 60th (Kolesár, 2009). The goal of this research is to design paper-based boards for manufacturing furniture, which will be long lasting, even though it would be made from paper waste. Different types of paper and additives were used during this research. Over two hundred testing samples were created, and their physical and mechanical properties were tested. Also, its influence on the environment with the VOCs were tested. The research started during the internship at Louisiana State University (LSU), continued at Salzburg University of Applied Sciences (SUAS) and continued at Mendel University in Brno (MENDELU). During the work on the thesis the author also cooperated with a company Plastia, based in Nové Veselí, Czech Republic. The company provided material for further testing. The boards with the best results were used for furniture design of coffee tables and info panel, which was exhibited during the biggest Design event in the Czech Republic, Designblok 2020.
