Harmonization of work and family life in women in the managerial positions

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou harmonizace pracovního a rodinného života žen pracujících na manažerských pozicích. Cílem práce je zodpovědět na hlavní výzkumnou otázku: „Co brání harmonizaci rodinného a pracovního života žen pracujících na manažerských pozicích?“ Diplomová práce se skládá z teoretické, metodologické a empirické části. V teoretické části jsou nejprve charakterizovány základní pojmy harmonizace, gender, genderové stereotypy. Dále se teoretická část věnuje problematice žen na pracovním trhu, vertikální, horizontální a mzdovou segregací. Následující kapitola je mířena na ženy manažerky, odkládání mateřství a preferenční teorie. Poslední kapitola je zaměřena na zaměstnavatele a společenskou odpovědnost firem, především na koncepty work-life balance, family – friendly politiku, gender v organizacích a genderovou diskriminaci. Druhá část práce popisuje metodologii výzkumu. V této části je vysvětleno proč byl zvolen kvalitativní výzkum, jaká byla zvolena technika sběru dat, je zde definován výzkumný vzorek. V závěru diskutuji etické otázky. Empirická, třetí část, se věnuje analýze získaných dat. V závěru práce jsou shrnuty získané poznatky výzkumu a nastíněny možnosti řešení problému.

Abstract:

This thesis looks into issues of harmonization of family and work life for working women, though mainly women in managerial positions. The aim of the work is to answer a research question: “What is stopping the harmonization of family life and work life for women in management positions?” The thesis has a theoretical, methodological and empirical part. In the theoretical part we first describe basic concepts of harmonization, gender and gender stereotype. Next part concerns problems of women in job markets, vertical, horizontal and wage discrimination. Following chapter focuses on female managers, postponing maternity and preferential theory. Last chapter concentrates on employers, social responsibility of businesses primarily concept of work and life balance, family friendly politics, gender in organization and gender discrimination. Second part of thesis describes methodology of research. This part explains which qualitative research been selected, what type of techniques for data collection been used and a research sample. In the end of the second part we discuss ethical questions. Third empirical part is devoted to analysis of the acquired data. At the end of the thesis is a summary of acquired findings and an outline of the possibilities of resolving the matters.
