Political Correctness - ideal or bogey

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá fenoménem politické korektnosti, který je v posledních letech diskutovaným a současně velmi kritizovaným tématem, jak v zemi svého vzniku, v USA, tak právě i v Česku. Cílem práce je najít odpověď na otázku, zdali je politická korektnost ideálem nebo strašákem dnešní společnosti. Práce je rozdělena do tří kapitol. První kapitola se věnuje samotnému pojmu politické korektnosti, jeho historii a důvodům vzniku. Dále je rozebrán vliv politické korektnosti v jazyce, charakteristiky politické korektnosti jako ideologie a možné výhody a nevýhody. Druhá kapitola se věnuje aplikaci politické korektnosti, a to hlavně ve vysokoškolském vzdělávání v USA a kultuře, dále je přiblížena problematika multikulturalismu a politika afirmativní akce. V závěrečné části je přiblížen tento fenomén v českém veřejném prostoru, a to na základě analýzy článků a diskusí na internetu.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the phenomenon of political correctness,which is discussed in recent yearsand also highly criticized theme in their country of origin, in the USA,and now also in the Czech Republic.The aim of the thesis is to answer the question whether the political correctness is ideal or bogeyman of the today's society. The work isdivided into three chapters. The first chapter is devoted to the notion of political correctness, its history and reasons of creation. Further is also analyzed the influence of political correctness in the language, the characteristics of political correctness as an ideologyand its possible advantages and disadvantages. The second chapter is devoted to the application of political correctness, especially in higher education in the US and culture, it is also an idea ofmulticulturalism and affirmative actionpolicies. The final part is zoomed in, thisphenomenon in the Czech public space, based on the analysis of articles and discussions on the Internet.
