Meaningful Work and its Connections to Work Motivation

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na vztah mezi pracovní smysluplností a pracovní motivací u lidí pracujících v pomáhajících profesích. Hlavním cílem práce je analyzování vzájemných vztahů těchto dvou proměnných a posouzení možných rozdílů z hlediska různých typů profesí, věku a délky praxe. Teoretická část na základě prostudované literatury vymezuje pracovní smysluplnost a pracovní motivaci, jejich vzájemný vztah a specifika obou konceptů u pomáhajících profesí. Tento teoretický rámec slouží jako základ pro výzkumnou část práce. Ta se zaměřuje na dospělé osoby, které pracují v pomáhajících profesích (N = 808), ve věkovém rozmezí 18 až 70 let, přičemž převážná část respondentů se pohybovala kolem 40 let. V rámci kvantitativního výzkumného šetření byly administrovány dva dotazníky. Ke zjišťování typů pracovní motivace byla použita škála WEIMS (Škála vnější a vnitřní pracovní motivace), ke zjištění pracovní smysluplnosti byla využita škála CMWS (Komplexní škála pracovní smysluplnosti). Výzkumná část této práce ukázala vzájemné vztahy mezi pracovní smysluplností a některými typy pracovní motivace. Dále výsledky poukázaly na možné rozdíly pracujících z hlediska délky praxe, věku a typu pomáhající profese.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis focuses on the relationship between work meaningfulness and work motivation among people working in helping professions. The main aim of the thesis is to analyse the interrelationship between these two variables and to assess possible differences in terms of different types of professions, age and duration of experience. The theoretical part, based on the studied literature, defines work meaningfulness and work motivation, their mutual relationship and the specifics of both concepts in helping professions. This theoretical framework serves as the basis for the research part of the thesis. The latter focuses on adults working in the helping professions (N = 808), ranging in age from 18 to 70, with the majority of respondents in their 40s. Two questionnaires were administered as part of the quantitative research investigation. The WEIMS (Work Extrinsic and Intrinsic Motivation Scale) was used to determine types of work motivation, and the CMWS (Comprehensive Meaningful Work Scale) was used to determine work meaningfulness. The research part of this paper showed the correlations between work meaningfulness and some types of work motivation. Furthermore, the results show possible differences between workers in terms of length of experience, age and type of helping profession.
