Perception of green hotel activities and their impact on hotel guests

Abstract:

The aim of the bachelor thesis is to assess how guests perceive green activities in hotels and to design direct activities in the hotel practice to achieve a more sustainable environment. Terms such as green hotel, green activities and green hotel certification are described. The bachelor's thesis justifies the reasons why it is necessary to practice green activities and emphasizes the importance of educating its employees. The primary data were obtained using an online questionnaire that was sent to a non-homogeneous group of people. Although people look and try to behave ecologically, research has shown us that sustainability is still not so widespread in Slovakia and the Czech Republic that it is supported by the majority of the population. The respondents to the questionnaire answered the questions largely neutrally or with less distrust of green hotels. The proportion of respondents who are in favor of green activities in hotels and those who do not believe in these activities was quite balanced. Based on these data, it was more difficult to create an analysis that would accurately determine the perception of green activities and their impact on guests. That is why specific activities are proposed in this work, which would help hotels to support environmental protection and expand the importance of green activities in accommodation facilities. It describes the activities and justified reasons of green activities for newly built hotels, but also for long-term accommodation facilities.

Abstract:

Cieľom bakalárskej práce je posúdiť ako hostia vnímajú zelené aktivity v hoteloch a navrhnúť priame aktivity v praxi hotela na dosiahnutie udržateľnejšieho životného prostredia. V bakalárskej práci sú vysvetlené dôvody, prečo je potrebné zelené aktivity praktizovať a zdôraznená je aj dôležitosť vzdelávania svojich zamestnancov. Primárne dáta boli získané pomocou online dotazníka, ktorý bol odoslaný nehomogénnej skupine ľudí. Hoci sa ľudia tvária a snažia správať ekologicky, výskum nám ukázal, že ešte stále nie je udržateľnosť v Slovenskej a v Českej republike natoľko rozšírená, že by ju podporovala väčšina obyvateľstva. Respondenti daného dotazníka odpovedali na otázky vo veľkej miere neutrálne alebo s menšou nedôverou k zelených hotelom. Pomer respondentov, ktorí sú zástancami zelených aktivít v hoteloch a ľuďmi, ktorí týmto aktivitám neveria, bol celkom vyrovnaný. Na základe dostupných dát bolo zložitejšie vytvoriť analýzu, ktorá by presne určila vnímanie zelených aktivít a ich vplyv na hostí. Práve preto sú v tejto práci navrhnuté konkrétne aktivity, ktoré by pomohli hotelom podporovať šetrenie životného prostredia a rozširovať dôležitosť zelených aktivít v ubytovacích zariadeniach. Sú tu popísané činnosti a aj odôvodnené pozitíva zelených aktivít pre novovybudované hotely, ale tiež aj pre dlhoročne fungujúce ubytovacie zariadenia.
