Literary Themes of Significant Operas and Ballets by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práce je interpretace literárních námětů z řad spisovatelů zastoupených ruskou a německou literaturou, kterými se Pjotr Iljič Čajkovskij inspiroval k vytvoření svých baletních a operních děl. Součástí je úvod do ruské hudby 19. století zastoupený významnými skladateli a kroužkem „Mocná hrstka“, nechybí zde ani stručný přehled vývoje operního a baletního žánru. Čajkovskij se dokázal oprostit od tehdejších pravidel kladených na kompozici hudby a stal se tak zakladatelem kontextu hudby nové. Do svých děl vnášel emoční vypjatost a tragičnost, inspirovanou především jeho vlastním životem. Kladl důraz na ženské hrdinky v proměnách společnosti, kterým v závěru dával dostatečný prostor k tomu, aby mohly promluvit. Práce dále rozkrývá děj zkomponovaných vybraných baletních a operních děl, která by nemohla vzniknout bez práce libretistů. V závěru se práce stručně zabývá vztahem mezi literárním a výsledným hudebním dílem, do jaké míry se původní námět od opery či baletu liší a co Čajkovskij do svých příběhů přidal, pozměnil anebo co naopak vypustil.

Abstract:

The aim of bachelor’s thesis is an interpretation of literary themes from the ranks of writers represented by Russian and Germany literature, which Pyotr Illyich Tchaikovsky was inspired to create his ballet and opera works. A part of work is an introduction of Russian music of 19th century represented by important composers and the Neo-russian school circle. There is also a brief overview of development of the opera and ballet genres. Tchaikovsky was able to break free from the rules wchich was placed on musical composition and thus became the founder of new musical context. He added emotional tension and tragedy to his works which were isnpired by his own life. He emphasized female heroines in social changes and eventually, he gave them enough space to speak. The work further reveals the plot of selected ballet and opera works, which could not have come into being without the librettists. In the end, work briefly deals with the relationship between literary and final musical work, to what extent the original theme differs from opera or ballet and what Tchaikovsky added, changed or omitted from his stories.
