Profit and loss statement from the perspective of selected users

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá analýzou a zhodnocením výkazu zisku a ztráty, jeho vypovídací schopnosti, metod použitých k sestavení a jejích promítnuti do ostatních účetních výkazů. Dílčím cílem je zhodnotit metody přípravy a kontrol podkladů k sestavení finanční a manažerské výsledovky vybrané firmy, zanalyzovat možné vlivy na rozhodovací procesy v rámci podniku, upozornit na možnou optimalizaci procesů, případně se dopracovat ke konkrétním metodickým pokynům.Teoretická část práce se zaměřuje na účetní závěrku vcelku a na její součást v podobě výkazu zisku a ztráty, analyzuje skupiny potenciálních uživatelů, zabývá se problematikou nákladů a výnosů a metodikou sestavení výkazu o výsledku hospodaření z finančního a manažerského pohledu. Praktická část se nejprve věnuje obecné charakteristice činnosti firmy a vnitřním procesům probíhajícím v rámci vedení účetnictví. Dále jsou rozebíraná účtování účetních operací nákladů a výnosů, které ovlivňují vypovídací schopnost výkazu zisku a ztráty podnikatelského subjektu. Vedle toho jsou vybrány případy, na kterých je ilustrován rozdíl přístupu v přípravě a představení informaci ve finanční a manažerské výsledovce. U daných transakcí je také analyzována možná chybná interpretace a uveden správný účetní výklad. Ve finální časti se provádí analýza vypovídací schopnosti výkazu zisku a ztráty z pohledu uživatelů a navržení možných postupů zlepšení.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the profit and loss statement, its explanatory ability, methods used for compilation of this statement and its projection into the other financial statements. The partial aim is to evaluate the methods of preparation and control of the information to compile the financial and the managerial profit and loss statements of the selected company, analyze the possible influences on the decision-making processes within the company, to draw attention to the possible optimization of the processes, or to describe specific methodological instructions.The theoretical part of work is focused on the financial statements and their part in the form of a profit and loss statement, analyzes groups of potential users, describes issue of costs and revenues and the methodology of compiling the statement of financial results from financial and managerial point of view. The practical part deals with the general characteristics of the company’s activities, cost and revenue accounting operations, that affect the disclosure capability of the profit and loss statement. Inside this part certain cases were selected to illustrate the difference in approach of preparing the external financial statement of profit and loss and the statement of profit and loss for company management. For the given transactions, possible misinterpretation is also analyzed, and the correct accounting interpretation is presented. In the final part has been done the analysis of the reporting capability of profit and loss statement from the users' perspective.
