The modern history of the Jewish population in Velké Meziříčí

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá osudy židovských obyvatel Velkého Meziříčí od druhé poloviny 19. století s důrazem na období Protektorátu Čechy a Morava. Zaměřuje se na jednotlivé židovské rodiny i na komunitu jako celek. Práce poskytuje přehled o tom, jakým způsobem žili místní židé před druhou světovou válkou, jaký osud je čekal během okupace a jakým směrem se po válce ubíraly životy přeživších holocaustu. Veškeré situace a události, kterými velkomeziříčští židé prošli, jsou zasazeny do dobového kontextu. Významnými zdroji informací, které byly pro práci použity, jsou archivní fondy z archivu Muzea Velkého Meziříčí a z Národního archivu v Praze. Nejcennější zdroj informací však představují svědectví samotných pamětníků či jejich rodinných příslušníků.

Abstract:

This thesis The modern history of the Jewish population in Velké Meziříčí records the fate of the Jewish people in Velké Meziříčí since the second half of the 19th century especially during the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. It aims at the particular Jewish families as well as at the whole Jewish community. The thesis provides the summary of: how the local Jews used to live before the World War II, what happened with them during the occupation and how the survivalists of the Holocaust lived after the end of the World War 2. All the incidents that the local Jewish people went through are given into a contemporary context. The important sources of information used for this thesis are the archival sources. The most valuable source of information are the testimonies of Holocaust survivors or their family members.
