Business Angel Decision Making

Abstract:

Business angels jsou obecně považovány za hlavní zdroj financování nových podniků, nacházejících se ve fázích pre-seed, seed nebo počáteční fázi růstu. Hlavním cílem bakalářské práce je odpovědět na výzkumné otázky: Podle jakých kritérií business angels posuzují investiční příležitost a proč do některých projektů investovat odmítají. K prozkoumání daného problému byl proveden kvalitativní výzkum prostřednictvím osobních rozhovorů s 8 českými business angels, získaných použitím metody sněhové koule. Výsledky výzkumu ukazují, že podnikatel a tým jsou klíčovým důvodem jak pro přijetí, tak i pro odmítnutí investiční příležitosti. Za stejně důležitý kritérium je považována myšlenka, nápad či samotný produkt. Dané kritérium těsně souvisí s tržním potenciálem, který má ale podle výzkumu menší váhu než osobnost podnikatele a produkt. Přínosem práce je zvětšení informovanosti začínajících podnikatelů v souvislosti s kritérii a faktory, které jsou pro ně nejdůležitější pro úspěšné přilákání business angel investice a přípravě svého projektu.

Abstract:

Business angel investments are considered to be the most important source of financing for early-stage companies (pre-seed, seed or stratup). The major focus of the thesis is to answer research questions: According to what criteria business angels evaluate an investment opportunity and why they reject to invest in some projects. To investigate the problem, qualitative research was conducted through personal interviews with 8 Czech business angels, obtained using the snowball method. The results of the research show that the entrepreneur and the team are a key reason for both accepting and rejecting the investment opportunity. An idea or a product is considered to be an equally important criterion, which is closely related to the market potential, which according to the research is less important than the entrepreneur and the product. The asset of the thesis is to increase the awareness of start-up entrepreneurs in connection with the criteria and factors that are most important to successfully attract business angel investments and preparing their project.
