Columbian national identity in El general en su laberinto

Abstract:

The thesis aims to analyze the concept of the contemporary national identity of Colombia and its presence in the novel El general en su laberinto written by Gabriel García Márquez. The first part of the thesis elucidates the issue of the national question and its individual forms in different periods of the Colombian history. Subsequently, the thesis will examine the impact of Márquez’s childhood and his journalistic activity on his ideological attitude and the forms of its expression in his work. Later, it will focuse on the author’s self-identification with the Latin liberator Simon Bolivar, who has been known for his struggle for the unity and independence of the South American countries. The practical part will examine his ambivalence in the role of the mediator of the author’s message about the construction of the Colombian nation and its identity.

Abstract:

Táto práca sa zaoberá konceptom súčasnej národnej identity Kolumbie a jeho prítomnosťou v novele El general en su laberinto od Gabriela Garcíu Márqueza. Práca najprv objasní problematiku národnej otázky a jej jednotlivé podoby v rôznych obdobiach kolumbijských dejín. Následne bude skúmať vplyvy Marquézovho detstva a jeho novinárskej činnosti na jeho ideologický postoj a formy jeho prejavu v jeho tvorbe. Neskôr sa zamerá na autorovu autoidentifikáciu s latinskoamerickým osloboditeľom Simonom Bolívarom, ktorý sa preslávil bojom za jednotu a nezávislosť juhoamerických zemí. V praktickej časti sa bude skúmať jeho ambivalentný charakter v úlohe sprostredkovateľa Marquézoveho odkazu ohľadne konštrukcie kolumbijského národa a jeho identity.
