Eccentric work in the prevention of hamstring muscle injuries in soccer players.

Abstract:

The Hamstring is the frequent muscle that could be injured by the athletes while performing sports that involve sprinting, running and jumping. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a type of an eccentric training in football players, aimed to prevent or reduce injures. The force training is referred by several authors as a rehabilitate treatment. Nevertheless, in the last years the focus is set mainly onto the prevention. The training of Hamstring is performed by a so called stress-lengthening activity which is able to provide higher forces, with respect to other standards training exercises, while requiring the same amount of energy. Injures frequently happen during eccentric contractions, especially in the final swing phase. It is confirmed that the musculotendon unit of hamstrings has an optimanl adjustment to the applied lengthening forces supposing that the muscle itself has experienced this stimulus before, progressive and repeated. An eccentric resistance exercise could prevent musculotendon hamstrings injures , improving muscle ability to absorb more energy before final break up. In this study 40 football players (age 22.5 +/- 4 ,height 180 +/- 7 cm, mass 75 +/- 7 kg.) member of 2 separate team, have been choosen. They were carefully evaluated before and after the training and by adopting a questioner. They also were randomly divided into two different groups: the treated group (20) and the group of control (20) that was not treated at all.

Abstract:

Gli Ischiocrurali sono i muscoli piu soggetti a subire lesioni tra gli atleti, soprattutto coloro che praticano sport con sprint, corsa, cambi di direzione e salti. La proposta di questo studio e quella di valutare l?fefficacia di un allenamento di tipo eccentrico nei calciatori, che viene svolto a scopo preventivo per ridurre le lesioni. L?fallenamento della forza, infatti, e raccomandato da diversi autori come trattamento riabilitativo, mentre negli ultimi anni l?fattenzione si e spostata maggiormente sulla prevenzione. Un allenamento degli IC tramite una sollecitazione in allungamento, e in grado di generare forze piu alte e consente un?fefficienza maggiore rispetto alle altre modalita tradizionali di allenamento, a parita di spesa energetica. La maggior parte degli infortuni avvengono proprio durante contrazioni eccentriche, soprattutto nella fase finale di oscillazione , ma e dimostrato che l?funita muscolo-tendinea degli hamstring ha un ottimo adattamento a queste forze a patto che il muscolo abbia un?fesperienza con questo stimolo anticipata, progressiva e ripetuta. L?fesercizio di resistenza eccentrica puo quindi prevenire la lesioni all?funita muscolare e tendinea, andando a migliorare l?fabilita muscolare ad assorbire piu energia prima di rompersi definitivamente.
