Influence of family relations between the employer and employees on running and development of a family business

Abstract:

Rodinný podnik má mnoho předností, zároveň se však musí potýkat s řadou problémů. Rodinné podniky dokáží ve srovnání s ostatními typy podniků daleko pružněji reagovat na rychle se měnící podmínky, mají své nezaměnitelné know how, je pro ně charakteristická hrdost na firmu, kterou budovaly jejich generace, mají vypěstované sociální cítění, vládne v nich přátelská atmosféra atd., ale na druhou stranu musí čelit nebezpečí plynoucímu z rodinných vztahů, ze zaměstnávání příbuzných, s jejich zvýhodňováním před ostatními pracovníky, s otázkou nástupnictví a nedostatku strategických informací o dalším rozvoji firmy atd. Výzkum se zaměřuje na vybraná kritéria daná hlavními charakteristikami rodinné firmy. Tato kritéria byla blíže představena v teoretické části práce. Jedná se především o nepotismus, tedy protežování příbuzných a známých, dále vykořisťování podniku na úkor ostatních zaměstnanců, syndrom zhýčkaného dítěte, proces následnictví a nedostatek strategických informací. Cílem práce bylo zjistit, zda je existence rodinných vztahů v popisované firmě spíše přínosem anebo zda může být pro její další rozvoj nevýhodou.

Abstract:

The family business has many advantages but it has to deal with many problems as well. Family firms are able to react very flexibly as the conditions are changing, they have their own specific know how. The founders are often very proud of the business which had been grown up by previous generations and there is often very friendly atmosphere. On the other hand, the family businesses have to face the problems which are caused by family relations, employing relatives. The other problems are favouritism, lack of strategic information from the boss and succession problems. Specific characteristics of the family business are introduced in the theoretical part of this thesis. The aim was to find out, if the existence of family relations in the family business can be rather positive or rather negative for the whole fim. The research is focused on criteria which are typical for family business and which are written in the theoretical part. The most important ones to mention are nepotism (protectionism) and succession problems.
