Evidence synthesis for the surgical treatment of Cauda Equina Syndrome

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřena na syntézu důkazů v oblasti chirurgické léčby syndromu cauda equina. Konkrétním výstupem práce je umbrella review, orientované na hodnocení efektivity a managementu časné (do 48 hodin od nástupu příznaků) versus pozdní (po 48 hodinách od nástupu příznaků) chirurgické dekompresní léčby syndromu cauda equina ve vztahu k pravděpodobně dosažitelným přínosům pro dospělé pacienty s CES podle CESCOS kritérií (Cauda Equina Syndrome Core Outcome Set) a to především v oblasti funkce trávící soustavy – inkontinence stolice, v oblasti nervového čití – poruchy perianogenitálního čití a v oblasti kvality života – narušené sociální fungování.

Abstract:

The thesis has been focused on the evidence synthesis for surgical treatment of cauda equina syndrome. The specific outcome of the thesis is an umbrella review, focused to evaluation of the effectiveness and management of early (within 48 hours of symptom onset) versus late (after 48 hours of symptom onset) surgical decompression treatment of cauda equina syndrome in relation to the likely achievable benefits for adult patients with CES according to the CESCOS criteria (Cauda Equina Syndrome Core Outcome Set), particularly in the area of bowel function – fecal incontinence, neurological sensory impairment – perianogenital sensory impairment and quality of life – impaired social functioning.
