The phenomenon of an au-pair examined on the case of the Spanish family of higher layer

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce bude zaměřena na zmapování a komparaci chodu a výchovy španělské rodiny vyšší vrstvy a české rodiny střední třídy. Výsledky mohly být zaznamenány díky půlročnímu terénnímu výzkumu ve Španělsku, který byl veden metodou zúčastněného a otevřeného pozorování. Po celou dobu výzkumu jsem se snažila o emický pohled a vyhodnocování výsledků práce za pomoci kulturního relativismu. Mezi nejdůležitější životní hodnoty španělské zámožné rodiny patří kariéra, úspěch a dobrá reputace, proto jsou na členy rodiny aplikovány vysoké požadavky už od útlého dětství, avšak pravděpodobně za cenu ztráty intimity nejbližší rodiny a rodinných hodnot. Děti zde tráví svůj čas převážně se svými au-pair, nejsou vedeny k samostatnosti, a chvíle strávené s rodiči jsou brány jako nadstandard. Zajímá mě zejména možnost aplikace tohoto, pro českou společnost, v tento čas netypického stylu výchovy na české děti z pohledu jejich rodičů a dále také z pohledu samotných au-pairs, kdy hlavním cílem bude zodpovězení výzkumné otázky, zda zkušenost s prací au-pair následně ovlivňuje pohled na uspořádání vlastní budoucí rodiny. Práce se bude také týkat fenoménu au-pair obecně, motivace k vycestování za účelem práce s dětmi v zahraničí a dále konkrétně au-pairs ve španělských movitých rodinách. Tato část výzkumu byla zpracována jako kvalitativní výzkum s menším množstvím respondentů z důvodu hlubšího proniknutí do problematiky. Byl veden metodou zúčastněného pozorování, strukturovaných a polostrukturovaných rozhovorů, komparace vzájemných zkušeností respondentů a evaluace.

Abstract:

This thesis will focus on mapping and comparison operation and training of the Spanish upper class families and middle-class Czech family. The results could be recorded thanks to half of the year lasting field work in Spain, which was led by an open and participating observation. Throughout the research, I tried not to judge and evaluate the achieved results with the help of cultural relativism. Among the most important life values of Spanish families are affluent career, success and good reputation, so on the members of the family are applied high expectations from early childhood, but probably at the expense of intimacy immediate family and family values. Children spend their time mostly with their au pairs and are not lead to be independent, and the time spent with their parents is considered to be above standard. I am particularly interested in the possibility of application of this, for the Czech society at this time, atypical style of education. The problem is viewed from parents' perspective and also from the perspective of their own au-pairs, where the main objective will be to answer the research question whether the experience of working as an au-pair affects the organization of own future family. The thesis will also cover the phenomenon of an au-pairs in general, the motivation to travel for work with children abroad and specifically au pairs movable in Spanish families. This part of the research was developed as a qualitative research with a smaller number of respondents because of deeper penetration into the issue. It was conducted using participant observation, structured and semi-structured interviews, respondents' experience of mutual comparison and evaluation.
