The effect of optical environmental conditions on feeding success of turquoise killifish (Nothobranchius furzeri)

Abstract:

Zakalenost vody ovlivňuje interakce mezi predátorem a kořistí, pohlavní výběr a strukturu vodních společenstev. Tato práce poskytuje data, která ukazují, že zakalenost vody nesnižuje potravní úspěšnost anuálního halančíka Nothobranchius furzeri, považovaného za vizuálního predátora. Dále data ukazují, že samice konzumují více než samci. To naznačuje, že samice kompenzují vysoké reprodukční náklady. Nothobranchius furzeri, zejména samice mají pravděpodobně velký vliv na formování struktury společenstev vodních bezobratlých ve svém prostředí.

Abstract:

Turbidity affects predator-prey interactions, sexual selection and the structure of aquatic communities. This work provides data showing that turbidity does not reduce predation success of the annual killifish Nothobranchius furzeri, which is considered a visual predator. Further, the data shows female consumption to be greater than the male's, suggesting the females compensate for high reproduction investment. A large effect of N. furzeri and especially the female is suggested for structuring invertebrate communities in its habitat.
