Abstract:

The role of faith in the lives of the young heroes of Eric Emmanuel Schmitt This bachelor’s thesis examines the use of child heroes in the literary works of the contemporary french writer Eric Emmanuel Schmitt. It analyzes the narrative and semantics employed in three books from the series “”Cycle de l'Invisible” - Monsieur Ibrahim et les Fleurs du Coran, Oscar et la Dame rose a L'Enfant de Noé. The introduction is dedicated to the author himself: his life, his works and his philosophy. The theoretical part is concerned with the development of fictional characters in general and their function in literature. The main body of this work is an analysis of the main characters from each book, focusing principally on their development during the course of the narrative. This shows that the child protagonists, in each of the three works examined, share similar characteristics, such as their tragic fates, unsympathetic parents, and negative views of themselves and their surroundings. Into the lives of each of these three characters steps an adult figure, a wise person with some spiritual experience, who helps the children, with his positive approach, come to terms with their difficult lives and to get help from “The Invisible”. In all three cases this leads to a radical change in their self-perception, and as a result the children experience release from their earlier traumas and set out on a new path in their lives, thanks to their spiritual mentors and meeting “the Invisible”.

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je typologie dětského hrdiny u současného francouzského spisovatele Erika Emmanuela Schmitta. Jedná se o naratologicko-sémantickou analýzu jeho tří knih z cyklu Cycle de l'Invisible: Monsieur Ibrahim et les Fleurs du Coran, Oscar et la Dame rose a L'Enfant de Noé. Úvod práce je věnován samotnému autorovi, jeho životu, dílu a jeho filozofii. Teoretická část práce se zabývá vymezením literární postavy a její funkcí v literatuře. Hlavní část práce tvoří analýza hlavních postav jednotlivých románů, zaměřená především na vývoj hrdiny. Provedenou analýzou jsme zjistili, že dětští protagonisté všech třech zkoumaných děl vykazují společné znaky, co se týče tragičnosti jejich osudu, neporozumění ze strany jejich rodičů, negativního pohledu na sebe sama i na své okolí. Do života každého z těchto hrdinů vstoupí dospělý jedinec, člověk moudrý s určitou spirituální zkušeností, jenž svým pozitivním postojem pomůže dítěti vyrovnat se s jeho těžkým životním osudem a najít pomoc u „Neviditelného“. Ve všech třech případech nastává u dětského hrdiny radikální proměna vnímání sebe sama, dítě prožívá vysvobození ze svých minulých zranění a vydává se po cestě, kterou objevilo díky svému životnímu průvodci a díky svému setkání s „Neviditelným“.
