The effect of positive social norms in the context of czech majority relationship with Roma minority

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá souvislostmi zprostředkovaného nepřímého meziskupinvého kontaktu a postoji měřenými škálou sociální vzdálenosti v hlediska většinové populace (Neromů; N = 321) vůči Romům. Byl zkoumán vliv pozitivních deskriptivních sociálních norem, tedy míry zvýšení meziskupinového kontaktu mezi Romy a Neromy, na postoje ingroup (Neromů) vůči outgroup (Romům). Ve výzkumu byla jako nezávislá proměnná fiktivní článek. První článek byl kontrolní a popisoval, že meziskupinový kontakt mezi Romy a Neromy je v rozestupu pěti let beze změny. Druhý článek popisoval, že mezisku-pinový článek mezi Romy a Neromy se v rozestupu pěti let mírně zvýšil. Třetí článek popisoval, že meziskupinový kontakt mezi Romy a Neromy se výrazně zvýšil. Výzkum byl soustředěn na to, jestli mají tyto pozitivní deskriptivní normy vliv na postoje Neromů vůči Romům. Výsledky ukázaly, že vliv pozitivních deskriptivních norem není signifi-kantní.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the relationship between mediated indirect intergroup contact and attitudes measured by the social distance scale in terms of the majority population (non-Roma; N = 321) towards Roma. The effect of positive descriptive social norms, i.e., the degree of increased intergroup contact between Roma and non-Roma, on ingroup (non-Roma) attitudes toward outgroup (Roma) was examined. In the research, a dummy article was used as an independent variable. The first article was a control and described that the intergroup contact between Roma and non-Roma was unchanged five years apart. The second article described that intergroup contact between Roma and non-Roma increased slightly five years apart. The third article described that intergroup contact between Roma and non-Roma has increased significantly. The research focused on whether these positive descriptive norms had an effect on attitudes of non-Roma towards Roma. The results showed that the influence of positive descriptive norms is not significant.
