Girl´l Education on the way to the modern civil society. Gender and Social Aspect of the Process of youth socialisation during 1774 - 1868.

Abstract:

Disertační práce se věnuje vzdělávání a výchově dívek v době v epoše zániku stavovské společnosti a zrodu moderní občanské společnosti. Zachycuje požadavky na genderovou roli ženy v prostředí řemeslnických středních vrstev, u měšťanské inteligence a částečně i dolních vrstev a sleduje, nakolik tyto požadavky ovlivnily proces socializace dívek - ve škole a v rodině. Soustřeďuje se především na prostředí městských a maloměstských řemeslníků. Práci tvoří dvě ústřední kapitoly - v první jsou na základě dobové literatury a korespondence definovány požadavky na roli ženy, resp. objem jejich znalostí a dovedností a úroveň gramotnosti a následující kapitola popisuje proces socializace dívek ve škole a v rodině, roli četby a náboženství při jejich edukaci. Problematika vzdělávání, výchovy a genderové role ženy je sledována v době od zavedení povinné školní docházky v roce 1774 po reformu školství v roce 1868, teritoriálně je vymezena na území Čech.

Abstract:

This dissertation explored the girls´ education during an era of a disappearing estate society and an emerging modern civil society. It described the requirements related to a gendered role of a women from tradesman middle-status background, from burgess intelligentsia and partly also from lower class. It examined how these requirements influenced the process of girls´socialization at school and in the family. It focused on the town- and provincial tradesmen because the education, schooling and the role of a woman from this background has not been yet sufficientlyexamined. This thesis is written in two main chapters. Based on the period literature and correspondence, the first chpter defined the requirements imposed on the female role and on the literacy level. The following chapter described the process of girls´ socialization at school as well as the role of reading and religion for their education. The problems of education, schooling, and a gendered female role was explored in a time period from the instrution of the mandatory school attendance in 1774 to the school reform in 1868; it focused on the Bohemian territiry. thesis is written in two main chapters.
