Experimental Analysis of the Relation Between Gambler's and Hot Hand Fallacy

Abstract:

V práci jsme poskytli detailní přehled dosavadních poznatků a navázali jsme na nejnovější přístupy v problematice gambler's fallacy a hot hand fallacy. Navrhli jsme unikátní experiment, který spojoval ruletu se sázením na lidské štěstí. V něm jsme testovali hypotézu vzniku těchto fallacies, kterou navrhli Ayton a Fisher (2004), a hypotézu o jejich vzniku skrze locus of control navrženou dvojicí Croson a Sundali (2006). Naše výsledky jejich hypotézy nepotvrdily. Při zkoumání vlivu charakteristik jednotlivců na jejich chybné víry jsme vyvrátili aktivní roli pohlaví jedince a narazili jsme na možnou závislost mezi projevy positive recency a náboženskou vírou a projevy positive recency. Vzhledem k malému vzorku, si potvrzení našich výsledků vyžádá další výzkum.

Abstract:

We have extensively covered review of relevant papers about gambler's & hot hand fallacy and our work follows concepts proposed in the most recent ones. We have built unique experiment which combines roulette with betting on person's luck. In the experiment we have tested Ayton's and Fisher's hypothesis about roots of these fallacies (2004) and the hypothesis proposed by Croson and Sundali (2006) which explains both fallacies through the locus of control. Our results don't confirm these hypotheses. In further research on individual basis we have rejected role of gender in emerging fallacies and found strong correlation between religion beliefs and positive recency bias. But this relation needs further proves of significance because of our small sample.
