Greenery or Concrete? Attitudes of Residents and Newcomers to the Changes of upper Bystrc

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá rozdíly v postojích starousedlíků a novousedlíků ke změnám probíhajícím v oblasti horní Bystrce, okrajové části města Brna. Výstavba, která tam probíhá, by se dala považovat za suburbánní vývoj. V oblasti totiž dochází k rozšiřování města na zelené louce, přesunu lidí na okraj, nové výstavbě a doplňování její infrastruktury. Práce následně tyto postoje k rozvoji porovnává. Zohledňuje přitom zvláště přírodní prostředí oblasti, vztah jednotlivých respondentů k přírodním hodnotám prostředí a jejich place identity. Výsledky výzkumu se lišily od očekávání. Skupina čtyř respondentů se nedá členit na starousedlíky a novousedlíky. Neodlišují se ve svých postojích na základě těchto kategorií. Nelze ani univerzálně říci, že starousedlíci mají hlubší place identity či si více cení přírodních hodnot. Každý z nich má odlišné charakteristiky a preference, které utvářejí jejich postoje ke změnám horní Bystrce.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the differences between the attitudes of long-term residents and newcomers to the changes of upper Bystrc which is a suburb of Brno. The building-up can be called a suburban development because the expansion of the city is occurring there on the greenfield, the new blocks of flats are built, people are moving to this area, and infrastructure development is still happening there. Consequently, the thesis compares the attitudes. The paper reflects mainly the natural environment of the area in relation to the attitudes, the relationship of the respondents toward the natural values of the area and their place identity. The results of the research appeared to be different from the expectations. The four respondents cannot be divided between long-term residents and newcomers. They do not differ in their attitudes based on these categories. It also cannot be said that the long-term residents possess higher intensity of place identity or that they appreciate the environmental values more than the newcomers. Each of them has different characteristics and preferences which influence his attitude to the changes of upper Bystrc.
