Culture without roots? Transformation of the culture in Kaplice

Abstract:

Předložená diplomová práce je kulturním místopisem města Kaplice i s jeho spádovými oblastmi. Pozornost je věnována faktografické analýze historického a současného kulturního dění na Kaplicku, zařazení současných tendencí do kontextu dlouhodobého vývojového procesu kulturního života s akcentem zejména na prudké změny v průběhu 20. století a příznačný geosociální kontext. V určitém časovém pásmu jsou sledovány proběhlé kulturní akce, postoj Městského úřadu Kaplice k podpoře aktivit v různých spektrech kultury, tvůrčích jedinců či skupin v rámci regionu. Text je doplněn orientačním přehledem názorového spektra obyvatelstva k problematice kulturního dění. Dále je upozorněno na kulturní hodnoty, osobnosti a místa, které mohou kromě turistické funkce plnit také úlohu prostředníků k získání hlubšího vztahu k regionu pro obyvatele, u nichž je proces zakořenění z nejrůznějších důvodů problematický. Kaplicko nemá v důsledku různých okolností významné kulturní památky, díla ani osobnosti, které by zdejší region výrazně proslavily. Tomuto stavu je poplatný menší zájem badatelů a poměrně sporadické zpracování kulturních dějin a kulturního života regionu. V závěrečné souhrnné části práce autor nabízí subjektivní náhled na problematiku organizování kultury na Kaplicku utvářený osobní konfrontací s místním kulturním prostředím, faktografickými údaji a ohledem na historický kontext.

Abstract:

The submitted diploma thesis is a cultural topography of the town Kaplice, including its subregions. The attention is given to the analysis of historical and current cultural events in the region of Kaplice, putting present tendencies into the context of the long-term development process of cultural life, with emphasis on rapid changes in the 20th century and distinctive geo-social context. The thesis examines in a defined time-frame cultural events, attitudes of the Kaplice town hall towards the support of various cultural activities, creative individuals or groups within the region. The text is complemented with a broad overview of citizen opinions regarding cultural events. It is further elaborated that cultural values, personalities and places can serve not only touristic functions but can also be me mediators for the local citizens – where the process of rooting is from various reasons problematic - to deepen their relationship to the region. The region of Kaplice does not have for many reasons cultural monuments, works of art or personalities that would make the region well-known. This also results in lower interest of scientists in the region and very sporadic processing of cultural history and cultural life of the region. The author concludes with his personal view of the organization of culture in the region of Kaplice, formed by his personal confrontation with local cultural environment, facts and historical context.
