Media and leisure time of second grade students of primary and grammar schools

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce řeší roli médií ve volném čase žáků 2. stupně základních škol a víceletých gymnázií. Cílem bylo zjistit, která média jsou nejčastěji zastoupena v životě adolescentů a v jaké míře je ovlivňují. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a praktickou část. V teoretické části jsou přiblíženy výsledky tří výzkumů a tří závěrečných studentských prací na podobné či obdobné téma a jsou zde vysvětleny pojmy jako média, mediální gramotnost, možné pozitivní i negativní vlivy médií a v neposlední řadě také adolescence. Součástí praktické části práce je pak kvantitativní výzkum časového zastoupení jednotlivých médií u dětí nebo jejich preferencí při výběru média například za účelem vyhledávání informací. Jelikož je drtivá většina dospívajících v dnešní době online, výzkum byl zaměřen především na sociální sítě a s tím spojenou i aktivitu jedinců na jednotlivých platformách. Vyhodnocení probíhalo pomocí dotazníkového šetření, kterého se zúčastnilo celkem 1 261 žáků, a výsledky ukazují, že sociální sítě hrají v jejich životech nezastupitelnou roli, a to dokonce i v rámci jejich studia. Výzkum pak může sloužit pedagogům jako ukazatel potenciálu sociálních sítí a jejich efektivního využití ve výuce.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis addresses the role of the media in the leisure time of the 2nd grade of primary schools and multi-year grammar schools pupils. The aim of this work was to find out which media are most often represented in the lives of adolescents and to what extent they happen to be influenced by them. The diploma thesis is divided into two parts, namely theoretical and practial. The theoretical part presents the results of three researches and three final student works on the same or similar topic. This part explains concepts such as media, media literacy, possible positive and negative influences of the media and, last but not least, adolescence as well. Part of the practical part of the work consists of a quantitative research of the time representation of individual media in children's everyday life and school time or their preferences in choosing a medium, for example, in order to search for certain information. The research was focused mainly on social networks and the associated activity of individuals on individual platforms, since the vast majority of adolescents today spend most of their time on-line. The evaluation was carried out using a questionnaire survey, which was attended by a total of 1,261 pupils. The results show that social networks play an irreplaceable role in the pupils' everyday lives and even in their studies. Lastly, this reaserch can serve teachers as an indicator of the social networks' pontential and their effective use in education as well.
