Analysis of the impact of liquidity to the profitability of banks in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřena na vzájemnou interakci likvidity a výnosnosti v bankovních institucích v prostředí českého bankovního sektoru. Práce na základě lineárního regresního modelu potvrzuje inverzní vztah mezi rentabilitou a likviditou bank ve sledovaném časovém intervalu. Dále hodnotí a porovnává objem likviditních aktiv u velkých, středních a malých institucí na bankovním trhu České republiky a konstatuje nevyšší průměrné zastoupení likviditních aktiv v bilancích velkých bank. Současně práce hodnotí vybavenost bankovního sektoru likviditou a konstatuje stabilní výnosnost a vysokou likviditu institucí přispívající k vyšší stabilitě finančního systému.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis focuses on the mutual interaction between liquidity and profitability in bank institutions in the Czech banking sector. The work based on the linear regression model confirms the inverse relationship between the profitability and liquidity of banks in the monitored time interval. It also evaluates and compares the volume of liquid assets of large, medium and small institutions on the Czech banking market and notes the highest average ratio of liquid assets in large banks' balance sheets. At the same time, the work assesses the liquidity of the banking sector and notes the stable profitability and high liquidity of institutions contributing to higher stability of the financial system.
