Conflict in the Niger Delta: potential of resource conflict

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá konfliktem v Deltě Nigeru, a to především jeho surovinovou dimenzí. Hlavním cílem práce je detailně popsat ten-to dlouhotrvající konflikt s důrazem na konfliktní suroviny a potenciál konfliktu do budoucna. Zároveň se tato práce zaměřuje na proměny konfliktu s přechodem k demokratickému režimu země. Konkrétně jsou představeni jednotliví aktéři, dynamika a intenzita. Důraz je kladen také na bezpečnostní, socio-ekonomickou a politickou situaci v regionu. Detailní představení jednotlivých aspektů konfliktu a analýza událostí vede k určení potenciálu konfliktu do budoucna.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis focuses on the conflict in the Niger Delta, especially its resource dimension. The main goal of this work is to describe in detail this long-lasting conflict with emphasis on conflict resources and potential of the conflict in the future. At the same time, this work fo-cuses on transforming the conflict with the transition to the country´s democratic regime. Specifically, actors, dynamics and intensity are in-troduced. Emphasis is also placed on the security, socio-economic and political situation in the region. Detailed presentation of the individual aspects of the conflict and analysis of events leads to the determination of the potential of the conflict in the future.
